If you don't complain then a) they will serve it again without thinking twice (and this could be to someone who is lactose intolerant or vegan) or b) think "Well this vegan ate it so it's ok for others". We're all sick of restaurants not knowing what "vegan" is and this is just making it more complicated.
Of course, well said. I'm sick of people not understanding veganism. The amount of times I've had to explain to waiters what I can't eat. I get so excited when I rarely hear a hospitality person say, "oh you're vegan". Understanding veganism/other diets are essential if you work in restaurants, why don't people get it?
And do we really want to be hearing more of the old "oh.. but it's only a little bit of cream/egg/cheese/milk"?

One of the main reasons I avoid restaurants that serve meat, I just don't trust people, even if they are trying to understand me. I remember serving myself at the buffet at Lentils as Anything and I asked what was/wasn't vegan, the guy there said the pasta had "a little bit of cheese, so I guess you wouldn't call that vegan". A lot of vegetarians don't get it, grrr, why don't we have any vegan restaurants?

I didn't know White Lotus was all vegan? Wow. I didn't mean to say any, I mean to say more, ha. My mistake.

Firstly, I eat whatever the hell I want to. I don't answer to anyone except myself.
Anyways, I'd argue that not being a pain in the arse is more important then not eating emulsifiers/whatever. Oh and I'd rather have more slacker vegans, then everyone think that if you were vegan you had to be super strict.

That's very tough of you Nath.

As I've stated earlier, someone that rejects all 'major' animal products like cheese, eggs, milk etc is probably going to be considered a 'pain in the arse' by a lot of people anyway.

And what's a slack vegan? Someone that chooses to  'only eat a little bit of animal products'.
Someone that thinks that 'occasionally indulging in the luxury" of animal exploitation is ok?

I highly doubt the people in this thread who choose to eat the occasional product to make veganism seem easier would call themselves 'slacker vegans' in the first place - they would argue what they are doing is showing commitment to the goal of a vegan world.

Anyway, all of what you mention has been expressed or retorted before now.

Oh! What I love is when they said "Yes! I know what vegan is". I'm so happy I don't have to explain! But they finish with "We have a great pasta with seafood" or "butter is ok?"... Grrr!!!

Firstly, try and eat at veg restaurants or perhaps find out what you want to order before hand. Maybe just don't get bread?
And the waiter should be able to tell you if something has animal products in it in the first place.
I've never heard of anyone have to get the waiter bring out a list of emulsifiers...

Secondly I don't see choosing not eat the bread if it has any animal products in it as making a fuss.
Yep, totally agree! I contact a "new" restaurant in advance and let them know I'm coming and ask them what is vegan. I ask about mains and entrees (as I love my bruschetta!!!). If nothing on the menu is vegan, I see if they can make me something. I usually say I'd be happy with something as simple as pasta (that way it's not too much trouble for them either) happy
