Hey Paula, I had the same thing happen to me a little while ago. Poor little guys i rescued 4 little chicks when they were 2 weeks old all 4 of them turned out to be roosters. I loved them so much and had to get up a 4ish every morning to try and stop them crowing. There was NO WAY i was letting them go to anyone with even the slightest chance they would be eaten they were my baby's i loved them soo much sad
Anyway i found a beautiful lady in Don Valley that took them. She will keep them at her free range property until they can also find them a home guaranteed not be eaten. Her phone number is 59673742 . It was a 2hr drive but well worth it for piece of mind. I've been back out several times to get some little girls they have such lovely natures.
Good luck its so hard when you get so attached but i get attached to all creatures and now have quite a menagerie but i LOVE them all. happy

Do you still need a rooster by any chance? Anybody?  I am looking for a free range home & life for my beloved rooster Carlos. We live in villas with a good backyard but when we brought the three of them home freshly hatched, we expected three hens. The crowing is going to get us in big trouble. RSPCA said they would euthanise him which I'm not happy with.

You can send him to a animal sanctuary. We have a few in CO. and I know of one in NY.

Have you actually had any complaints?  Do you know your councils’ rules about roosters?  Our council will only contact us if they get complaints.  When they do they recommend various things, obviously getting rid of them is listed, but they are open to ideas and happy for us to try different things to try and get everyone happy.  They have said to us that where the people are being 'unreasonable', with number, position, etc that’s when they are likely to make them get rid of the roosters.  If you do stuff like change how you manage him, move the day house, move where he sleeps, put him in a more sound proof environment at night, etc they will try to help you smooth the waters between you and the complainer.  I've found that if you put them in a box at night, it muffles the crowing immensely, particularly if you have the box in a building that will further muffle the noise.

Hi Ange1,

I'm having the same problem that one of my 3 chicks has grown into a rooster and his started crowing. Unfortunantly looks like all 3 are going to be roosters (what are the chances!)

Are you still looking at taking on roosters? It's our son's first pets and can't bear the thought of them going to markets.

Hi Guys I know this post ended a while ago but I was wondering if anyone living within driving distance of Sydney would be interested in taking on a Rooster. He is very cute but due to neighborhood complaints we have 7 days to get rid of him or the council will destroy him sad

I've found a guy on the gum tree who said he will take him on but he seems a little dodgey...

let me know if you have nice home for a very cute Rooster...
Thanks
Nicole

Thanks

We have a beautiful Barnevelder rooster (8 weeks old) and we need to find a forever home for him. We are happy to travel to get him to his new home.
