Awesome, just got an email back. happy

PU leather is  "a composite of man-made PVC +
fibre, no animal skin at all"
Not sure what a 'flight bag' is, but I love the design on it happy

Oh okay. I wasn't sure if it was some weird teen lingo or if it literally meant for flying.

The term PU Leather confuses things. I'd for some time taken this to be fully synthetic or "faux" leather made from polyurethane. I've heard from someone who worked in a factory producing "PU Leather", described as sold, that they made the faux leather under this name without any animal products involved.

Definitively some people say PU Leather means faux, completely synthetic leather.

However, other people (maybd more) are using the term PU leather to describe bicast leather - meaning polyurethane plus leather.

Bicast leather is an animal skin product, though not completely. It is a mix of real leather hide material and plastic based material. It is usually thought not to be as good quality or long lasting as real, full animal leather. (Though I understand there can be exceptions with high quality productions.) For people looking for real, full leather, bicast leather is not what they want, and for vegetarian minded people or those who don't want animal products, bicast leather is not suitable as it is made with animal skin.

Since I heard of that, I'd heard of people differentiating between PU Leather (they meant bicast leather) and PU synthetic leather (they meant polyurethane faux leather without animal products).

The main issue with PU Leather is that this term is used to describe two different things. This can become somewhat confusing if you are new to veganism in general. PU Leather can refer to Polyurethane leather, which is 100% synthetic and is vegan in nature. However, it can also refer to leather that is fortified with a polyurethane backing.

It also doesn’t end there. Many companies importing these goods from places like China, where they are made far cheaper. This can cause the animal leather to not even be made from cows, but rabbit, cat, dog, or even rat hide. This can cause more animals suffering the long run if you buy the wrong product.

PU itself is a polymer that can be manipulated and made to order. This makes it cheap and affordable, but can suffer from being brittle. So if you want something a little more durable, finding another form of vegan leather might do you some good...
