"Topping up Vegans
Vegan have to really work hard to make sure they get adequate micronutrients. Wholegrains, legumes and soy help boost zinc and B12 levels. Green leafy vegetables, tofu and tahini are rich in calcium. Plenty of flaxseed, walnuts and canola oil will help keep up omega-3 fatty acids. The challenge is keeping normal iron levels. According to the American Journal of Clinical Nurtrition (2009), vegans should aim to eat twice as much iron-containing foods as they think they need, because some of their regular foods inhibit iron absorption (eg. phytates, calcium and polyphenols in tea and coffee)."
Wow!! No wonder we have so much trouble convincing people that our way of life is healthy, when we have to deal with this kind of misinformation in a widely respected publication.
what the?? what context is that in... I can't imagine why they would put in an article like that in the first place, but it sounds like they have an agenda given the use of language in the opening sentence

I reckon those petrol heads should get out of their cars and walk around in the real world (although I love driving, and I'm totally smitten with my car... but I still feel the need to walk for at least an hour a day). I doubt the person who wrote the article has ever met a vegan in their entire life.
PS. I drink about five cups of black coffee a day, and feel much the better for it.

Oh it's not true? Dang, just had the best excuse to try out a vegan chocolate brownie recipe that has walnuts in it...suppose I still can:p
If veganism is so easy then why are there so many vegetarians on the board?
The article is suggesting getting enough of the right nutrients is hard for vegans, whereas I would suggest what most vegetarians here find hard about going vegan seems to be either parental pressure or an addiction to cheese!!
And yes, I found the early stages of veganism to be a bit hard, but the only hard part now is the jokes/opposition to it from some people.
