Yeah that does sound quite biased, nohing else?
I found that one, too, but that was it (with the exception to the one I linked to before). Neither have convinced me.

I don't think I'd ever put my animals on a vegan diet. They're carnivores. It would be like me only subsisting on tofu and vitamin supplements. Sure I might survive but that doesn't mean it's the best thing for me. Of course i avoid factory farmed products and buy from sustainable fish sources. I will never buy a pet though, i take in animals that come my way and need caring for. We inherited a german shepherd and no i would not turn him away because he is a meat eater, I think that would show a lack of compassion.

This is extremely insulting.
I don't think it is insulting. If you choose to have a meat eating pet and feed them meat... then you are contributing to the death of animals. It is a fact, not an insult. Just like if you yourself ate meat. There is no difference other than we don't require meat for our health.

I choose to keep my dogs on a meat based diet and will one day lower the amount of meat and source specific types only. But I am sad knowing that other animals are dying so that I can keep my pet alive.

I don't think of it as right or wrong, but I accept that is the truth.

Thank you, I was only saying it genuinely makes me feel sad and depressed but not as an insult.

I think this is a great question and topic...I am a vegetarian and I too make my animals home-made meals...i would prefer not but I must consider their dietary requirements to live a healthy life....after reading some of the comments and suggestions I feel like a horrible person for this now..I too am the same I believe commercial foods do so much damage to our companions...With high levels of salt, low calorie content and all those other nasties they put in their...I would love to be able to feed my animals on a vegan diet....but you really need to consider their needs, and the nutritional benefits that will have to them

In relation to the cats and dogs debate Having studied Animal studies we went through this and its alot harder for cats to survive off vegan diets then it is for dogs.... as  Not enough protein or fatof animal origin....Taurine is an amino acid only found in animal protein that cats must have in their diet Deficiency causes cardiomyopathy and blindness. Feeding diets with too much carbohydrate(cheap source of energy)can cause obesity or anorexia if the carbohydrates are indigestible( from plant sources)......

I think that instead of criticising persecuting and insulting people  about it we should all be supportive of each other and offer suggestions after all this topic was started by a fellow animal lover looking for advice, and general opinions....I choose not to eat meat and have any animal products or use animal products...But is it wise and fair for us to deprive natural predators and carnivores that??

Also if you ask some of the members on this forum they have vegan cats living fine and healthy but if i thought they couldn't be vegan i personally would just not have a cat it's hard to justify over 100's of animals to be factory killed for a cat that couldn't possibly kill them otherwise (cows etc) considering cats are domesticated animals neither is technically natural, their has been research into the nutritional amounts to make products like vegan-pet cat and dog food and from the feedback I've heard they have been successful and have the animals living as long or even longer because of their decrease of problems from the factory farmed animals(hormones, anti-bitotics, terrible feed etc). Once again of the top of my mind "BreadmanInAus" has vegan cats living find, ask him how he's going with them.

I personally am a bit peeved at vegans feeding animals meet because i personally have chickens and find it disgusting that poor little chickens and of course other animals will have to die for peoples pets, i really would like people to either not have cats or dogs or have them vegan because knowing they die because of vegans saddens me and even if someone was of that opinion their are plenty of fully natural herbivorous to save.

I think you should at least try phasing them onto a vegan diet and see how they go a few weeks Isn't going to do full time damage and plenty of others have found successes ask some of them for help.
For starters, all of my animals are fed organic (pasture fed) and free range meats that don't have the factory farmed hormones you speak of. I can assure you that my selection of meat for my animals was an extensive process.  I've studied the vegan diets for cats and dogs, however I also studied the anatomy of my pets, and there is indisputable evidence that cats are obligated carnivores. Specifically an essential amino-acid Taurine only found in meat products that cannot be substituted in a vegan cat diet, or at least not sufficiently to my standards. I can understand that vegans who cook meat, sourced from factory farms would be hypocritical, but I have taken the utmost care in making sure the products my boys eat are humane.

I foster cats and dogs from rescue groups and I have a responsibility to fulfill their need for a nutritional, healthy, natural diet. Of course, its always dependant on the owners opinion and moral interpretation. I at least try to support a system where these animals can live a happy life, and where it reflects the standard of animal lovers.

You could sit there and have an abolitionist approach to the subject and deny your pet meat, but personally, I can't be blamed for the circumstances, humans domesticated cats and dogs who are, obligated carnivores and omnivores, respectively. I have animals to ensure are healthy, and so long as the bird that died for my pets meal had a happy life and was killed humanely, I have no choice but to compromise.

It sounds harsh, especially on a animal-loving forum, but it is, what it is.

Please feel free to ask any questions or reply.

I have a feeling that the circumstances and options would be different if the bigger issues were tackled first so I'll stop continuing to repeat myself and better spend my time on figuring out what I can do to help others discover the path of veganism/vegetarianism.
