Technically by the definition of 'Vegetarian' they aren't real... but I mean if someone says they are vegetarian (even if they eat fish) and someone who eats meat asks questions about the vege lifestyle and gets to learn something new... something they can think about. PLUS it is a good lead in to fully blown vegetarianism, most books suggest you ease into it gradually, so I guess that is one of the gradual processes you can use.
Spreading the vegetarian message yessah.
I have this dilemma with my sister, she is Vegetarian NO animal flesh at all, but she will still happily buy fur and leather products... Which to me isn't vegetarian at all. BUT technically she is still a vegetarian.
haha charlotte rae the cannibal part made me laugh, i wonder what it would be like to meet a cannibal...
anyway i don't think pescetarians are proper vegetarians, when i started out i was one for a couple of months and called myself a vegetarian because i didn't know the difference i thought they went under the same "label" so i forgive the ones who didn't know about pescetarian, but if they know i think they should go by pesceterian.
it is still a big step so i'd never put one down, just telling them the difference usually helps and it is one of those gradual steps that still helps a lot of animals.
although, not everyone knows the correct definitions.
Another girl in my grade at school is pescetarian, and she didn't know that she was! she just called herself a vegetarian that eats fish. which requires a lot less explaining... sort of. Although I agree, they're not really proper vegetarians, cause fish are animals too.
Pescetarians -- "vegetarians" who eat .. err... fish.. right?
Well, there's an easy answer to this question: fish aren't vegetables .. they have eyes... and parents!!
That said, I'll admit that when I first went veg I ate fish for about 6 months and called myself a 'vegetarian'. Not knowing any other vegetarians at the time, I thought it was OK to think that (and was convinced by my parents that I 'needed' fish -- rubbish!).
But since then I've learned a LOT about fish, and I also learned that it's a lie to think that fish don't suffer (and that commercial fishing can in any way be 'sustainable'). So, I'm happy to say that I'm now a 'real' (?) vegetarian.
