Seriously guys, don't waste your time trying to reason with trolls - they won't listen, because they don't care. They're only here to cause trouble, and try and upset people.
Who knows? Jesse has given Daniel a pretty good reply backed with facts etc.
Perhaps Daniel will actually learn something.

Jesse is right... Asking what is so wrong about eating meat is a pretty good question for someone that may not know alot about the animal ag industry. Even if his intentions were not to learn, we really should offer him the facts happy
It's hard to take this person seriously as everything he wrote was in upper case. I thought there was a rule here about that?

Perhaps, though I get emails at work in upper case where people must have accidently pressed capslock or I'm an optimist and they're truly angry at me...

I do think he had a valid question... we have to remember alot of newbies on here and 'trolls' even don't know the truths about the meat industries and they may really have an 'OHHH' moment happy

You'll notice the title was changed... wink

Yes - we prefer if people don't shout at each other in here! Some people can't type without looking at their fingers... and some people don't realise that caps lock is on.

Actually you would be surprised how much i know about the ag industry i grew up as a farmer and now work in the sale of  livestock.  Now above Jessie has stated some unsatisfactory farm pratices so in reply hear goes 1. Coles has recently anounced that they will stop purchasing pork that is produced with  pig cages 2. Castrated lambs and calves tails and balls (as you put it) are not just cut off they have medicated elastic rings put around them that cut the blood circulation off. 3. scooping horns out of heads and/or dehorning mature cattle iis done However more emphasis has been put on the beef sector to produce natural polled cattle elimating this procedure.  4. Branding is really only done in the north and is only used to elimate cattle stealing.   To all the people who say Farmers can just change from livestock to veggies are ignorant as to soil structure and climate Australia is the driest contintent in the world most of it is unusable for anything other than livestock.

Shouldn't the issue of that animals lives are no more less imporant than humans lives are be enough for someone to realise veg options are so much better? Whether they slaughter an animal the crullest or 'nicest' way possible, I'd still rather not having a rotting corpse inside of me.

So we understand that you do not agree with our information and stats, but can I ask why you are here? Is it to tell us we are wrong? Are you interested in becoming a vegetarian perhaps?

Now you're talkin', Daniel5! I'm always interested in hearing from an Ag's experiences and perspectives.

Daniel, did you work in a family farm or a factory farm? there is a marked difference between the two. Apart from the obvious animal cruelty there are many more reasons to go veg. One reason is environmental factors, the animal produce industries produce more greenhouse gases than all vehicles combined (cars, buses, trains, planes, ships etc.) and they also produce a lot of fecal waste that is incredibly difficult to dispose of. Meat the Truth is a great film to watch on the environmental effects of animal produce production. Also, in a country as dry as ours we are very big on water conservation, to produce one kilogram of beef takes something like four times the amount of water to grow a kilogram of rice and a kilo of rice is going to go a lot further than a couple of steaks! (plus it takes up more land, which is then degraded by the cows hooves). Another reason is health. Western countries are the highest consumers of meat and dairy in the world, we also have the highest incidences of obesity, heart disease, most cancers, osteoporosis and others. It has been shown that many of these diseases are directly related to diet. I recommend reading the China Study, it compiles over eight thousand studies showing the link between animal protein and disease. Another reason to go veg is to decrease world hunger. More than fifty per cent of plant produce (particularly grains) is fed to livestock that feeds less than half of the worlds population. It makes no sense to me that our country is growing fatter everyday while other parts of the world starve, especially while there is enough food to feed everyone! The food just gets fed to cows instead to put the steak on your plate. As for jobs, factory farming has resulted in the loss of more jobs than you realise. Factory farming is all about getting the most product with the least labour and cost.
I'm not going to put my dollars towards a) cruelty, b) increasing environmental degradation and climate change, c) adverse health effects, d) fueling world hunger and, e) putting people out of business so that faceless corporations can take over. This is why I believe that vegetarianism is right and that "but it tastes good" is not a good enough reason to eat meat.
