On Saturday, my Mum drove me down to Humbug Scrub Wildlife Sanctuary for my first day of volunteer work. It was so amazing, and i loved every minute of it! ecstatic There were all kinds of animals and i got to get up close to all of them! But while i was there i found out that this amazing place wasn't doing so well.. Apparently they are running VERY low on volunteers (Humbug Scrub is a non profit wildlife sanctuary, they rely on volunteers and donations) and are in need of more donations. Looking around, i could tell that there was clearly more people needed to keep the place in order and there were quite a few things that needed fixing up eg. bigger cages, better fences etc, etc. So i have come to you people to ask you if you would (if possible) help Humbug Scrub out by donating or volunteering if you live nearby. Thankyou for listening (:

Ps. here is their website http://www.humbugscrubsanctuary.org.au

Isn't the feeling of doing work like this just wonderful?! I do the same thing here in Perth, but my center has recently had a multimillion dollar grant from Lottery West, which has helped us move into new grounds and update our hospital and enclosures. Without this - heavens above would only know. I think it's pretty shithouse that the local councils or governments don't give a damn.

Keep up the hard work!

oh: are outsiders allowed to visit?? I will be in Adelaide in March and would love to check it out.

Sounds good but it's an hour away from me. Bit too far to drive unfortunately.

How lucky you are! I hope Humbug Scrub can stay ok.

I really want to do some type of Volunteer work with wildlife in Victoria but I just can't seem to find anything.

I'm not sure where you're located Farron, but have you looked into Edgar's Mission? They're an amazing farm sanctuary (so not a 'wildlife' sanctuary as such), but they open their doors to volunteers twice a month. They're located in Kilmore, Victoria. I'm not in Victoria, but I've flown down there a few times to volunteer and it was incredible. I hope to make going down there once a month a regular thing. I wanted to do more than just not eating animals, and volunteering at places like this is a great way to make a hands on difference.

Oh Edgars Mission is much too far! Like more than 2 hours away for me, which is a bummer.

I'm more closer to Melbourne.

Kilmore is less than an hour train ride from Southern Cross, but I do get that it might be a pain to get to for most people! I just love that place so much, so I don't mind the 1000km trip haha.

Is it near Kilmore station or do you need to drive from there? Or is there public transport?

It's not too far from Kilmore station. There aren't any buses from what I'm aware of, but it's about a $20 taxi ride (or a quick 10 min drive).
