I was just wondering, as I have been thinking about saving some Bobby calves, and I was talking to dad about it and he raised an interesting point. If we bring home a couple of calves, we're going to have to bottle feed them, which means buying in bulk amounts of powdered milk. Which, in turn, isn't that compounding the problem of the dairy industry? As in we are going to have to source milk that has come from the dairy cows that we are trying to protect. It has been probably 20 years since we had a couple of pet cows, are things different now? Is there an ethical and moral way of feeding a couple of Bobby calves now, or is the milk powder sourced from the dairy industry cows still the only way of feeding them. I feel a bit conflicted about this. On one hand I would love to save a couple of calves from a horrendous life and death, but, am I knowingly contributing to the dairy industry demands. What's everyone's thoughts on this?
could you buy a dairy cow that had recently had a bbby calf? that way it could feed it?
plus that would be saving a cow to
im unsure if it contains milk or milk products, u could go to a produce store and read the ingrediants? .
also u have to think can u look after the calfs for 25 years? how much land do u have?
even if u didnt get a bobby calf there are plenty of animals out there that need helping. the dairy industry sells old cows for cheap ( when i say old i mean 3-6 years old) . u can buy them at sales for around $200 . and calfs go for around $1 - $10. . i have 3 dairy heifers atm and there so lovin
just so your totally informed ex dairy cows will cost anywhere between $600-$1000 at the moment and bobby calves will cost anywhere between $40-$500 + gst
Well, after the recent backlash against the dairy industry over denying bobby calves food and water for the last 30 hours of their lives, I'm going to say a lot more people than you think
