If I was in melb I'd put my hand up. I think it's a great idea - the people will probably be more open-minded than most.
I'm gonna go leafleting at a uni this weekend (hence my order of leaflets from Animals Australia today ). It's my first time and I'm going alone - haven't yet been able to win over anyone to the veg cause. 'Tis going to be quite frightening - but I really can't wait!
Any tips? I can't imagine any uni students being much trouble anyway. If this goes well, maybe my next target will be the local butcher
You'll be fine. I don't actually notice the difference whether I'm with others or by myself because I'm usually positioned away from the others to catch the rest of the flow of the crowd.
Besides, being alone = more productive because If I'm near others we sometimes miss people if we're gossiping or checking out fine males haha.
Just smile and appear happy and people will be more inclined to take your leaflets..
Hey Matty,
I hadn't done leafleting in quite a while and was feeling a bit nervous about it. I kept putting it off, and putting it off, but when I finally did it I wondered why I'd felt so nervous! I went leafleting at my local uni and it was really easy. I smiled and said "Hello. Info to help animals?" as I offered "Boycott Cruelty - Go Vegan" leaflets to students. Most of them took one, and those that didn't just said "No thanks" or silently walked past me. I saw quite a few people looking through the leaflets, and I really felt like what I did was worthwhile. It's a great form of activism as it takes very little planning and you can devote as much or as little time to it as you like. I recommend standing outside a high school or going to a uni, as young people are more receptive (plus they have more years of consuming ahead of them). I also tried leafleting in a pedestrian mall, but a lot more people refused to take a leaflet and it wasn't as much fun. Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
Kathleen.
