MY neighbour climbed fence to attack my dog???

Hi guys,

Now we don't have any proof that this is what happened, but it is obvious.
Yesterday (Friday 25th Feb 11), I left the house, with my dog in the backyard, at 7PM, to go to Youth. At this point my dog is by himself and there is no one in the house until 10:30 when my mother came home from work.
(If you want the SHORT VERSION OF THIS STORY, read the sixth paragraph)

When my mother came home, she went to let our dog (Vince, Vincey, Vincenator etc) in. She then made her dinner and about 15 minutes late she realises this; our precious little dog (Jack Russell x Daschund) had cuts on his face (near his eye, cheeck and mouth), scratches on his leg and his hind leg was limping, barley touching the ground.

I came home and 11:00PM. I walked through the front door, and I just knew something was wrong, I don't know why I just did. My mum came, looking like she was crying, I said "What's wrong", she replied "Vince", so I looked at him as he walked in. I instantly started crying when I saw the deep red cuts on this face, and his limp leg.

Now a couple of days ago, our neighbour (who is neither to the left or right of us, but behing us) started swearing and yelling at my mum because our dog had supposedly been barking for four hours, which is nonsense because we had only been gone for roughly 20 minutes, and before hand the dog was in the house!!

Also, with our previous dog, we used to find rock and tennis balls a few feet away from the fence that seperated our backyards so we suspected they had thrown them over aiming at our then dog Jack (a Jack Russell Terrier).

This morning we went outside to let our dog out to do his business and he instantly started growling at the neighbour when he saw him in his backyard. We also noticed this; potplants that had been moved, dirt everywhere and a rock a bit bigger than a large mango that had been moved from a potplant which was now a few feet away from its previous spot.

So you guys do the maths?

Tomorrow we are taking little Vincey to the vet, but at the moment, he is nothing like himself, he barley moves, where as before he used to follow me around everywhere (even to the toilet).

I don't know if youre a believe or not but PLEASE PRAY for my dog. If your beloved pet is suffering or missing or has passed on, please let me know and I'll only be too glad to pray for your pets.

At the moment Vince is wimpering in his sleep, GOD BLESS BABY!

Fellow animal lover,
Alexis

That's horrible!
Can you keep your dog inside while you are out of the house?

Yeah we can, we'd rather leave him outside in the fresh air and what not, but there is no way we're gonna risk him getting hurt again.

If it was my dog and I was sure the guy did it, I'd probably teach the guy a lesson.

Legally, I'm not sure what you could do, sorry sad

we've contacted the RSPCA and they said to file a police report.

Don't forget that you may be able to prosecute them for the attack on your dog, but also for illegally entering your property.

If you haven't done so already - call the police, take photos of your dog's injuries and anything which has been disturbed in your backgarden.  Ask the vet to write you a report stating what he thinks the cause of the injuries may be.

And then give your dog a big hug because it sounds like he needs a lot of love and support.

Hey guys heres an update.

We just came back from the vets. He says he cant tell us how it happened. But he did tell us he most likely has a torn ligement (We're taking him for X-Rays tomorrow morning to make sure). The procedure to fix a torn ligement is an operation that costs at most $15,000; money we cannot at all afford.

My mum doesn't think going to the police will do anything. We did contact the RSPCA, but they said they can't do anything without actual proof that it was the neighbours that did this to him.

Vince is acting a bit more like himself ie moving around more, but his leg still won't touch the ground unless he is stationary. When he walks, its usually in a diagonal movement and his back part hops forward.

Fingers crossed that some good news is to come, but I am not too hopeful.

That is so horrible sad My thoughts are with your family and your pooch.

I had a similar issue with a neighbour who had a problem with our cats sitting in the shade under the tree in is front yard. He used to kick them, come over and abuse us.
I remember one day I came home and my room mate was in tears because he had come over and threatened to kill them for going in his yard.
One morning I went outside and found a meat ball at my front door. Now, NOONE in the house ate meat, we were all vegetarians/vegans. And upon removing the ball and hosing the concrete underneath it, it actually bleached the concrete, so it was definitely baited.

The R.S.P.C.A couldn't do shit, neither could the police, the policeman was very understanding because he had similar issues with neighbours with his dogs, and took it upon himself to actually have words with the neighbour about making us feel uncomfortable in our own house. But still.

Try and get him on other accounts, like entering your property, or if it comes down to it, install a security camera in your backyard - they cost like $100(from tandy) and it would be well worth it. I would also be having words with your neighbour, even if you don't accuse him, just play ignorant, go over and tell them that some loser attacked your dog and you were wondering if they'd heard anything, and just say you thought you'd best tell them (especially if they have children or pets) that there's a 'creep' hanging around. I would personally be using insulting words, they'll get it. Tell them the police are aware and will be monitoring it.

Scare tactics are worth a shot, but without directly putting it on them, if you outright accuse them to their face, more harm than good could come of it, especially since they live right behind you!

Aw, thats so sad.  sad

I agree with the other responses, take pictures of everything and I think you should at the very least ask the police if they think you should make report, if not for the attack on your dog then for trespassing.

Completely agree with missmonster you should set up some form of security camera that can view the area - especially the fence dividing yours and theirs since they could attack again or show other behaviour that, if you ever chose to sue would help give a more likely than not verdict.

Going to talk to them with some type of record (like a tape recorder) could also be used as evidence - if they say something that seems to show that they did it.
Maybe go and ask your other neighbours if they heard anything as well.

Good-luck, I hope he can make a good recovery.
