I'm studying childcare at TAFE, and the subject is nutrition.
We are required to make a food plan for a "childcare" for our assessment.
Now, my question, as I'm vegan, I don't believe that we need animal products to survive... So should I still include them in my food plan (for the meat-eater children), or leave them out completely?
Show them what you know about nutrition & put some good alternatives in there - explaining how they suffice for the vitamins/minerals in animal products
I would leave them out completely. You know that it's possible to have a nutiritious diet without animal products, so you shouldn't feel the need to put animal products in your food plan. This could be a very good opportunity to prove that veganism is very healthy and nutiritious.
I agree with Leesa and Maggie.
Use your nutritional knowledge to show them that a child can be healthy and fulfill all their dietary requirements without animal products.
I'm guessing your doing the same course I did (by what you posted) and I included meat and non-meat options, and wrote about including information for the parents on the importance of eating less red meat and more vegetarian meals. I backed it up with good evidence and the teacher LOVED it.
Though, it really depends on the teacher, some of them can be massive hard arses. If you ring her and tell her what you plan on doing first, I'm sure she'll be cool with it
