It was well documented a few years ago that members of the board at the RSPCA were also members of the board at Meat and Livestock australia ,as well as the sheep growers association,  this was clearly a direct conflict of interest. With these facts brought to light in the media the RSPCA was forced to shuffle the board in order to distance itself from the bad publicity.  But of course the operating mandate of the RSPCA did not change as they need the federal funding from a country that relies heavily on the money and  jobs that the meat industry provides. So as the Government celebrated building the largest cattle ship in the world and sending 1 million animals overseas, The RSPCA is forced to tow the line regardless of the altruistic people that work for them.

I will never forget the covert footage taken on board a sheep carrier on it's way to Iraq, The sight of live sheep that were lame  being thrown down a chute that had a meat grinder at the bottom  and would subsequently  be ejected out of the side of the ship as a slurry into the ocean.
Or who could forget the 40 thousand sheep that burnt to death aboard the "Farid Fares" . And of course more recently the terrible trade in Indonesia.

All of these atrocities  were well known to the RSPCA as often it is the first to receive complaints of cruelty . And it's not easy to appear to care in the public's eye while all the while doing very little to implement real change. the RSPCA appear to have become a "white elephant" in regards to the cruel treatment of livestock animals.I think there is No greater example of this than in the case of Charles Darwin University  "Mataranka Station" www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMX7fAMSkXA .  No one to date has been charged for this, even though they know who was responsible.     Where was the RSPCA!

Unfortunately  the animals that need the most help in our country will miss out because they are not cute enough or fluffy enough to suit the RSPCA (government) agenda.

It's up to us folks..... megaphone

Someone needs to keep the RSPCA in check, they think they can do whatever they like to people without knowing all the facts of a case. They also need to keep the case load and conviction rates up to get their statistics up for more funding and to justify their existance.

The RSPCA abuses their power and the funds given to them I can tell you that honestly from personal experience with them. WE need the RSPCA but it needs to be monitored and officers need to have some people skills and not band together and lie. Its hard to fight emotional cases.

I also went to volunteer at one of their shelters when I was a teenager and found it saddening and never went back; they didn't have a 'no kill' policy - I came under the impression that dogs who didn't pass the character test were euthanased; that seemed a horribly casual approach to me - and this particular shelter also took in dogs for the local pound who were housed separately and not allowed walks or anything.  Understandable I guess, but still too awful for me.
Don't you get that animals housed at no kill shelters may suffer their entire lives in cages, making them angry and frustrated, and lessening their chance of adoption? Also No-kill shelters have long waiting lists and refuse a lot of animals- which may lead to horrible deaths like dumping at the side of the road.
At least animals at kill shelters have a chance.

But I don't blame you for not wanting to work there.  peace

the website dont work so they obviously dont exsist, i tend to think imagine if there was no RSPCA at all. Also the RSPCA is the only group that can take animal abuers to court and even that is a hard thing to do.
Spot on bud. Everyone is attacking rscpa. When all of you go start an organisation and do everything exactly right to please every single person in the world, with little funding, limited power and the exhaustion of peoples lack of care to animals... Then you may judge every tiny thing you disapprove of.

Goodness, wake up. No kill shelters still Euth animals they either re-word the reasons to be more socially acceptable or relocate the animals to a shelter that openly admits it does Euth, seriously do some research. A spade is still a spade no matter what you call it.

I totally agree. While RSPCA has its flaws it also has its strengths. There have been rude people that work for the RSPCA, and a lot more following up needed. IT does kill but atleast the animal has a chance rather then being left on the side of the road. I dont agree with there 'RSPCA approved" meat at coles, though they need to do something that suits people. They are taking little steps.
