It was well documented a few years ago that members of the board at the RSPCA were also members of the board at Meat and Livestock australia ,as well as the sheep growers association, this was clearly a direct conflict of interest. With these facts brought to light in the media the RSPCA was forced to shuffle the board in order to distance itself from the bad publicity. But of course the operating mandate of the RSPCA did not change as they need the federal funding from a country that relies heavily on the money and jobs that the meat industry provides. So as the Government celebrated building the largest cattle ship in the world and sending 1 million animals overseas, The RSPCA is forced to tow the line regardless of the altruistic people that work for them.
I will never forget the covert footage taken on board a sheep carrier on it's way to Iraq, The sight of live sheep that were lame being thrown down a chute that had a meat grinder at the bottom and would subsequently be ejected out of the side of the ship as a slurry into the ocean.
Or who could forget the 40 thousand sheep that burnt to death aboard the "Farid Fares" . And of course more recently the terrible trade in Indonesia.
All of these atrocities were well known to the RSPCA as often it is the first to receive complaints of cruelty . And it's not easy to appear to care in the public's eye while all the while doing very little to implement real change. the RSPCA appear to have become a "white elephant" in regards to the cruel treatment of livestock animals.I think there is No greater example of this than in the case of Charles Darwin University "Mataranka Station"
www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMX7fAMSkXA . No one to date has been charged for this, even though they know who was responsible. Where was the RSPCA!
Unfortunately the animals that need the most help in our country will miss out because they are not cute enough or fluffy enough to suit the RSPCA (government) agenda.
It's up to us folks.....
