Please guys... get a life! You would have to be really silly (House rules prevent appropriate description here) to get on board as a cesar hater because of this!... It is obvious that none of these dogs are seriously hurt... or even mildly hurt! Have you ever seen dog's assert their pecking order? It is significantly more ferocious than Cesar's method's and completely natural! That is all he is doing and in just enough of a way to get the result that is to the long term benefit of the animal. Dog's are hierarchical beasts that respond to disciplinary action to learn their place and respect their owner. Once they learn their place that balance is maintained almost indefinitely. A few kicks to pull a wayward dog in line may just save your dog from getting put down because it invariably snaps at a child or something to that effect... and you call yourselves animal enthusiasts! This issue is a load of rubbish and the people who subscribe to it need a kick in the bum themselves. I normally would not bother rebutting peoples personal opinion but it is hard to resist something so ignorant. Wake up!

Actually, cesar uses out dated methods anyway. The dominance theory has been disproven, as it has also been proven that reinforcing good behaviours and ignoring or interupting bad behaviours works. Now i will say, for the method cesar uses, he is actually good at the method and has great timing which is very important if you want to use punishment to train. And the whole stayig calm thing, and not worrying about what your dog did yesterday or even 5 minutes ago but living in the moment.

But even with him, on the show I see dogs displaying common stress signals like panting (not after exercising or on a hot day), yawning, lip licking, uncertain body posture etc. Or just dogs that are shut down. A lot of the 'red zone' dogs I see him with? Pfft give me a bag of treats, my clicker (or even my voice), and I will have the dog trained in the same time as cesar (keep in mind he takes longer then half an hour to train a dog. When filming they have to edit a lot of stuff out). He gets bit a lot. A good trainer rarely gets bit because they understand dogs body posture and behavior, and know how to not get bit. Also I don't have the link any more, but I have read a few links talking about dogs he has trained, going back to their old ways after a few months.

No reason to use physical corrections when positive methods work better in most cases and also give you a better bond with your dog. I am not a professional dog trainer (yet) but I have done a lot of research, watched dvds, read books, gone all over the internet and also researched cesar and his methods. Also trained my two dogs, one who had bad aggression problems about a year ago, and also done some training with other peoples dogs. I have probably just about given myself as much education as he has given himself, as he never actually recieved any education on dog training, just went straight into the career. Not that that can't work well, it's just he isn't keeping up his self education and staying with the times on dog training.

He kicked a well behaved husky in the balls, the husky turned around to bite him (wouldn't you?), so he turned its leash into a noose and started strangling it to 'calm it down'.

Need I say more?

I agree with this. I have always seen Cesar as the authority for dogs because he grew up observing natural dog behaviour and applies it with success. The dogs that need correcting with his firm touch (not kick) are getting it because the outcome of their aggression would be much worse than the correction itself (attacking people or other animals and then being put down because of it).
Come to think of it I believe I've already commented on this...but I have to show my support for a man who helps rehabilitate so many dogs. He is truly impressive.

I don't believe in hitting animals, the strictest physical punushment I use on my pets is a tap on the nose

I agree, but I don't believe in smacking or hitting a dog either. What Cesar does is 'correct' them, and the way he corrects his dogs is practically the same as my dogs correcting each other! Heck, my dogs actually nip or jab the side of the face and the legs if one is being annoying! tongue

Dogs are really rough with each other, it may seem to us, but its really how they express their natural behaviour.

the thing is, he goes a bit far from the natural corrections that a dog would give. Dogs don't jerk on the others neck for example. Also his 'taps' are sometimes a bit more then taps.

I have seen dogs correct each other, and have seen cesar correct dogs. Dogs that get corrected by other dogs, will usually just be like 'oh... Ok won't do that again" and go on, dogs that are corrected by cesar, who are often already past threshold, something good trainers would not advise doing, but once he is finished a series of corrections, the dog is stressed, and often shut down, which I guess some would call 'calm'. And again, I have seen him giving a series of corrections, with dogs the amount of corrections to eachother is a lot less in most cases.

But he has giving pitties a good rep, and I have to respect the guy for that

All those video clips of cesar "kicking" to control dogs are definitely doctored by "dogooders"
I have in the past month read cesars books and have used some of his ideas myself,no harm to my dog whatsoever,I am a old woman with a bad leg walking my cross standard poodle/springer spanial was a nightmare so much so that I did very little walking with him until I read cesars books while my beloved Percy is still tough to walk he is now getting the idea that I am the pack leader it may take a little while more of work but the idea of walking him more often is far more appealing now and he is getting to enjoy it more to.    So all of you who think Cesar is wrong take a good long hard look at yourselves before you criticize something you probably know nothing about.
