Join the international protest day 22.3. to demand a ban on fur farming
and the resignment of the Prime Minister in Finland!
Prime Minister of Finland Mari Kiviniemi is getting funding for her
election campaigns from the fur industry, and the main person in
organising her last election campaign is a spokesperson for the Finnish
Fur Sales, Päivi Mononen-Mikkilä. Prime Minister has said that
Mononen-Mikkilä will be in her "support group" in the coming elections
also. Kiviniemi is also often seen wearing a fur coat in public, and
seemingly proud of it.
Prime Minister's husband is designing PR-campaigns for the Finnish fur
industry, and is so also heavily involved with the pro-fur work.
New undercover investigation into 83 fur farms was released in February
with shocking images from fox, mink and raccoon dog farms. A year ago
videos from 32 fur farms were released. All together this over 100 fur
farms amounts to over 10 % of all fur farms, and is therefore a
presentative insight into the industry.
Most fur farms had sick, injured or dead animals at their farms. Farms
of the chairman of the Fur Breeders' Association and chairman of the
Finnish Fur Sales were also filmed, and sick and injured animals were
found on their farms too.
When Prime Minister Mari Kiviniemi was asked to comment on the pictures,
she refused. It is suspected that the financial support from the fur
industry makes her to remain silent on the subject.
On the international protest day 22.3. we hope to get as many countries
as possible to do protests at Finnish embassies/ consulates and demand a
ban on fur farming and also the resignment of the Prime Minister Mari
Kiviniemi. Join the protest and help us end fur farming in Finland!
