We have the same problem, I'm pretty sure.
Our cat just sits and stares under the dishwasher (which you can't see under) so I'm assuming there must be some around there because we've seen one come out from there before. I think I might try the humane mouse trap.
Block holes, make sure there is no food or water lying around. Put something like peanut butter or some other nutty or sweet thing in a humane trap, and put it in a place they are likely to go (maybe in front of one of their holes?) On our traps it says to out two traps opposite each other or something...
Mice are SO cute! There were two in our bathtub the other day! (It didn't have water in it of course!)
you need to put something inside the humane mouse trap! dont get rid of it. i have one at home, and it works for us. we've found that mice love peanut butter, so put a scraping of peanut butter at the end of the mousetrap. check to see if there is a mouse in it every morning and night, by going outside in the bush or somewhere similar, putting the mousetrap on the ground, opening up the lid quickly and leaving it open for about 1 minute. take a few steps away, and if a mouse doesnt emerge, pick up the humane trap and look inside.
you can make your own humane mouse trap with a sao biscuit(or other sturdy biscuit that can balance on it's side) and two containers i used to do this. you set up the containers so that they're resting on an upright sao opposite each other. when the mouse grabs the sao the container falls over the mouse. I do suggest putting it on a board or tray and using clear containers, i accidentally let go so many of the little critters trying to find out which container they were under Otherwise we keep all food in sealed containers and just keep everything as clean as possible (they breed in an area we don't have access to and we obviously won't trap or bait them)
I can totally recommend those little blue & yellow humane mouse traps. I had a really bad problem at one stage.
I ended up setting up a little "mouse-arium" out of an old aquarium, with a towel in the bottom, a little hidey place out of a cardboard box and some food & water and a lid on top. When I had that all worked out, I placed my humane mouse traps. I used peanut butter too and the mice loved it.
In one day, I caught 10 mice!!!! I put them all in the mouse-arium and organised a little place outside in the garden far away from the house using old bricks & roof tiles so it was predator and weather proof and released them all together. For weeks I caught mouse after mouse until they were all outside together. In between, I fixed up all the holes I could find where they were getting in.

OMG 10 MICE! That was a great feat there, poppy! That's so cool that you let them all out together...one big family.
