All shooters must have licences and pass tests to shoot ducks
Oh, so you think that you can post scenarios, but no one else can? Perhaps you should rethink some things. Just fyi, there has been car accidents before (in reference to the first two sentences of your post). All drivers must have licenses to drive, too, and people still have accidents.
Just because all shooters must have a license and pass tests doesn't make duck shooting right. Ducks, just like other living beings, feel pain and suffering. If you think a license is going to change that, you are wrong.
I've had ducks die in front of me out on the water Daniel and its a horrifying experience. It is ridiculous that shooters claim its always an easy kill and that the ducks die straight away. Often a second shot is needed, all the while the duck is bleeding and obviously in a tremendous amount of pain.
I think you're missing the point about duck rescue. Everyone is out there to try and save the discarded ducks that many shooters shoot for the fun of and then don't collect. These birds lie wounded and dying the reeds and days before they finally succumb to their injuries. How is that ethical or sporting?
If someone was about to shoot a dog in front of you Daniel, wouldn't you try and help the dog? Ducks and dogs are no different. Both have the ability to feel pain and terror at the hands of humans.
Daniel, I've seen a lot of ducks get shot, but I've never seen such a massacre as the disgusting display yesterday morning. 7 shot ducklings, too young to even have feathers, where brought in by rescuers. A Blue Bill and a Water Whistler where brought in, both protected species which look nothing like any of the game species. If you knew anything about hunting you'd know that it is against the "code of ethics" to shoot at birds across the water, that's why Julia got shot, that's why the ducklings got shot and that's why the Blue Bill got shot (Blue Bills dive to escape danger as they're not the best flyers). So before you go jumping up and down about how she was in the wrong remember the shooter was in the wrong too.
I'm going to write a letter about duck shooting to the editor of the newspaper that I buy. Does anyone know what kind of info I should include?
(You should all do the same too, if it's published then that means the public reads it and politicians read it! Good way to educate the public!)
I'll be doing the same! I'm going to say how it is cruel & ridiculous, talk about the ducks and also talk about the risks to people (getting shot by someone, shooting themselves, gun going off accidently, etc) because I find that a lot of people pay more attention when there is also a risk to them, someone they know, or even just humans in general. So I'm going to make use of that, and talk about risks to humans as well as the cruelty of duck shooting.

It's a good point to make also that if it's considered unsafe for protesters to be there in high vis safety gear, surely it's far more dangerous for shooters to be there in camo and that in the 25 years of Laurie's campaign this is the first accident but heaps of shooters have been shot and killed in that time.

Sounds good! I'll include the risk to humans too. I'm also going to include how it is banned in the majority of states. But I think it's banned in Queensland so you might not want to include that one.
Instead of drawing up hypothetical situations, shouldn't we look at the FACTS? Reason for killing ducks: none. Reason for saving ducks: many. I'm sad that the NO's are winning .
excuse my language, i haven't written this in a forum before, but the only word I can use for the shooter is C**T. The shooter deserves to be charged. What an arrogant smart arsed kid. I bet it's his a**hole parents who brought him up like that.
Even if the kid clams it was an accident, he should be charged (which we know was deliberate). If I accidentally crashed my car, i'd be charged.
Let's hope she gets better soon. It goes to show that duck shooting is a violent and dangerous bloodsport.
