I wore a pair of veganwares hiking boots for 18 days of trekking though the Himalayas (among many other things) and they were (and still are) wonderful.
They're actually no more expensive than other proper hiking boots.
These are the boots I have:
http://www.veganwares.com/hiker.htm I bought them in the store in Collingwood, but you can also get them though mail order.
Vegan Wares products, I could not recommend them enough! They are well worth the money and will last forever.
I agree, Vegan Wares are really really good shoes, quality made, Australian made vegan shoes, my boyfriend brought an amazing pair of work shoes of them and a belt only 2 weeks ago, his shoes $240.00 but well worth the money as they will last.
I also got him a guitar strap made for him there too! That was only 50 so I was really happy bout that!

!
and if you can afford the money to buy quality shoes up front then it's alot better for then environment as you don't go through a heap of cheap ruby shoes because they are junk.
But, I did find this place that seem to do the similar high quality micro fiber shoes but way cheaper! Dollar is good right now too
