I think its a "Im a macho meat eater" thing, like.. I can't be tough without eating dead things. Its quite silly, but if you don't try and preach it and use some charm, usually you get nice responses.. but you get the one psycho every so often.

ive very nervous, its my first time leafleting today, im going with vegan zombie. Have you got any tips to help me out? xD Im not much of a social person so i think its going to be awkward for me lol.
Yeh, i'm not the most confident person in the world either... but its different when i leaflet. i think because i'm doing it for the animals -- and their lives depend on it -- i just get it done. they don't need my excuses.

Nah lol. If you say something alone the lines of 'helped abuse animals?' in a friendly voice, i think it would be pretty hard for someone to start abusing you.
it's great that you have someone to go with you too. unlike the second time i went, the first time it was not busy so i had to physically walk up to people and offer them a leaflet. if you wait a street crossing in the city of whatever, you can just say whatever you want to say and hold out the leaflet. it's much, much easier. also be sure to basically hold out the leaflet to as close as theirt stomach as possible. if they don't have to reach for it, they'll be more inclined to take it.
also, make sure your on public property - like any pavement. if the police or shop owners tell you to move on for whatever reason (i'm sure they won't if your friendly to everyone) you can object.
Oh yeah, people remember no trespassing haha you can get in a lot of trouble but remember PIE helps!

No use just being plain ol' Jane about it..believe me Ive tried, it doesn't work because the people walking through the city probably have rejected 8 or so flyers before coming to yours. It gets annoying as hell for them, but if you work in some confidence, entertainment and charm then they are more likely to listen to you. Even if people take the flyer, look behind you and its most likely on the floor, you seriously need to entertain them.
And this is why hug a veg day is such a brilliant idea =D so good at grabbing attention!
