Hey I'm new to this but I have a problem. I have recently had a blood test and my iron levels were very high and I am taking no iron tablets which the doctor said may be the cause. Before this I was feeling great but now I have no energy and can't concentrate.  I'm just very confused why I have so much iron. If anyone could help I would really appreciate it. I don't think that what the doctor said "the human body is not made to be vegan" IS ONE BIT TRUE!

TOO much iron? I thought vegans having not enough iron was supposed to be the problem? laugh What kind of foods do you like to eat? Perhaps cut down on one or two foods which are particularly rich in iron.

No I meant high, I eat a normal vegan diet like fruit, soymilk, toffu, pasta and nuts and everything else which Is good for me. That'd why I'm so confused. And all my other levels are great.

I know of people who have iron issues which means they actually avoid high iron red meats, so it really doesn't sound silly.

If it were me I'd be searching the internet for information, or seeing a nutritionist.

I would even consider seeing a new doctor. As it might not be a vegan-related issue.

Yeah hemochromatosis is an iron overload - maybe go to a different doctor and get a second opinion. Most commonly vegans have issues getting their iron to a high enough level.

Drinking tea with meals can also help stop iron absorption.

Have you only recently gone vegan??

My step-dad has too much iron, and it's really bad for you apparently. He is only allowed 3 meals a week with meat now (heaven forbid he went vegetarian, living with me for a week in November is going to kill him I think!! bahahahaha).

Along with eating less iron fueled foods, try eating less vitamin C fueled foods too, as you need vit C to absorb iron.

I have been vegan for over a year now. Yes it doesn't make sence.
