Animal products just aren't food, I don't see how it could be hard after making that realisation

It's really not that hard once you know what you're doing and have a set menu for meals throughout the week and have all the ingredients you need.

I would suggest doing vegetarian first, get yourself a cook book or search online for recipes and get your ingredients and cook it.

Ie
Monday: spaghetti
Tuesday: enchiladas
Wednesday: Pizza
Thursday: quiche
Friday: chinese
Saturday: curry
Sunday: roast

and then look for recipes on how to make these vegetarian/vegan.

It does get easier.

It helps to learn a few basic foolproof veg/vegan meals off by heart, and stock the ingredients in your fridge/pantry! That way you'll always have something to eat, and when you feel like you might want meat, make the equivalent. E.g. buy some Quorn or Sanitarium mince to make a spaghetti sauce, chilli, etc.

Oh and don't be too hard on yourself if you mess up! Most of us did that in the beginning, just start again the next day. Good luck!

I'll simply add that if you consider veganism a diet, you're doomed to failure. You will subconsciously feel that you're being deprived of pleasure, and your resolve to be vegan will vanish almost instantly.

What I say to vegans who 'lapse' is sit down, start reading and watching again how animals are treated on this planet... because somewhere along the line, they lose sight of that.

I have to honestly say you do it by watching Earthlings. If you can't go vegan or vegetarian after watching that movie then I doubt you would ever be able to give up meat. Also, let me get you another link, here it is... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=es6U00LMmC4&feature=player_embedded#at=869

Being vegan isn't hard, it's a mind set, and an easy one. I have been vegetarian my whole life. Never even contemplated veganism, thought it was stupid. Until a few months ago when I actually looked into where our milk cheese and eggs etc comes from. Now I will never ever go back. It's like taking the red pill in the matrix, once you learn this stuff you can never go back. 2 months ago I was the biggest cheese addict in the world, now the idea of eating it sickens me. Pus, calf stomach, blood, morphine, plus the animal suffering...no freakin way thank you very much. I wish you allll the very best on your vego quest, any time  you wanna chat, I'm about happy

Well for a start I think its great you're trying to become a vegetarian so good work!

I think for a lot of people at first being a vegetarian is a bit hard but you will eventually get so used it it honestly becomes second nature. You could even try and buy some mock-meats to help you..... apparently meat is really psychological anyway, people like it for its texture!

You could also start buying some veg/vegan cookbooks or just research new veg recipes to get you into delicious new recipes to get you inspired! I know that always helped me and still now I get so excited about new vegan recipes theres just so much and new and different things to cook!

Trust me....you're not giving up anything (except contribution/support towards cruelty) but simply replacing everything happy Just think of it like that...thats how I see it anyway.

I also agree you could consider slowly easing into it..For me, I jumped from pesceterian to veganism, which for me personally wasn't hard at all....but everyone is so different and everyone works at their own pace! So even slowly cutting down with meat is an excellent start.

Oh and another thing. If you like eating junk every now and then, I think that is the hardest part of veganism, but there is a great thread on here called accidently vegan and it has a whole bunch of vegan food (mostly junk food) so check that out. I loooooove that most brands of licorice are vegan (just gotta make sure there no gelatin cos that's what some weirdo companies put in) and I looooove that oreos are vegan surprisingly enough. But yeah, you will find your way, it's definitely a learning process, I'm still learning big time!

Well done Christine. I've been vegetarian since last september and vegan since around Jan/Feb.

If you are finding it difficult, this is what you should do:

Phase out meat gradually. Stop eating one type of animal for a couple of weeks, then another, then another.

This was my plan, however, I kinda figured that all animals have just as much right to live as one another, so i ended up just giving up cold turkey.

I actually found it very easy! Mark your meat free days on a calendar, so you can see how far you have come!

Get a support crew. Fortunately, my fam and man were awesome and super supportive, and i know that many people do not have that luxury. Luckily though you have come to the right place!!! The people on here are awesome, and they are here because they care for animals and they want to make a positive change in the world. I can honestly say that various members on here have given me so much advice, support and encouragement, that was so helpful.

Lastly, if you feel yourself slipping up, you need to get online and check out some of the videos. If you can't watch what happens to these poor creatures then you sure don't deserve to eat meat.

Watching videos on here is what made me choose a vegan lifestyle.

At this stage, i know i am not a perfect 'vegan', but i know that i am making a difference.

Know that you can make a massive difference to a being, by just a simple choice ecstatic

Hope this helps and didn't bore you to deathwink
