it goes two ways, I will say however I do not use body shop items( im a lush boy)
Many say that by supporting The Body Shop you are sending a stron message to Loreal that you are against animal testing and if they see the money going into it, they see the importance
just another stance.....
It is a way to look at it.. But at the end of the day all the profits come together and sadly most of L'Oreal's products are successful amongst consumers. The Body Shop has a range of campaigns and being against animal testing is just one of them, L'Oreal may not even take notice to the fact that this is a reason why people purchase items from The Body Shop.
The Body Shop only sold out on the condition that L'oreal would never change the animal testing or fair trade type policies.
Just thought I'd add this (email from their customer service dept.) -
The Body Shop Australia is a fully owned Australian company, owned and operated by The Adidem Group since 1983. The Body Shop became part of the L’Oreal group in 2006 when sold by the founder Anita Roddick, however operates independently retaining our unique identity and values.
We do not sell L’Oreal products nor do L’Oreal manufacture The Body Shop’s products, furthermore we have no connections with other L’Oreal owned companies or shareholders such as Kiehl’s or Nestle for example.
Please be reassured that The Body Shop continues to operate exactly as it did before becoming part of the L’Oreal group. Further information about The Body Shop can be found on our website and information about L’Oreal or any of the other brands they own can be found on the L’Oreal website.
What you are saying is true but the profits are still going to L'Oreal sadly..
I was horrified to learn of L'oreal owning The Body Shop about a year ago. I believe the original owner Anita Ruddick(spelling?) now deceased, would be turning in her grave if she knew of this. It is the opposite of everything that she stood for, and the fact that most people believe that they are shopping responsibly when there makes it all the more sinister. Somehow it must become public knowledge.
There is an Australian company that stands for all the right things and happens to make the best hemp seed body care known to man. www.madeinhemp.com.au
I had now idea it is this kind of stuff that spins me out. I thought i was doing the right thing but supporting the body shop and buying from them because they have claimed to be against it... now i feel so incredibly bad! NO MORE shopping there!
