The other day I decided it was time to go shopping. I drove down to the local coles, parked, got a trolley and went inside. I always freak out at shopping centers so i decided to make it quick so i headed straight to the cold health foods and filled my trolly up with sanitarium goodies. I immediately pushed my trolly to the closest checkout and waited while the middle age, overweight, check out chick was having a conversation with some one (i assume) she just met.
FINALY their conversation ended and it was my turn so i loaded all my food up on the conveyor belt. she picked up the first item (some vegan sausages) and asked " do these taste good?" i said "yeh their pretty good" she said "Oh cos they look disgusting" If i wasn't in such a panic state i might have said something back to defend myself but i was panicking and needed to get out of their. Though un like me she wasn't in a hurry and began to read every box and have a decant look at every item (with a disgusted look on her face)
Then finally she finished packing my bag made some stupid comment about it being heavy (and assuming i wanted to talk to her) I then gave her the money got my change and walked out.
I then went to the fruiterer and thankfully they didn't make any comments about my eating habits.
I have had people at Coles question the tofu and "what do you do with this?" whilst holding my Tempeh, and depending on how the question is asked is how I answer. Some people are truly interested and others are just assholes.... to those people I am quite snappy and couldn't care less. I just make sure in future visits I don't go to their checkout again.
That sucks Bop. Some ppl shouldn't be in customer service.
One checkout chick asked me what the sweet chillic tofu cubes were like and admitted she said she had been eying them off for awhile. Hopefully I persuaded her to try!
hehe.that reminded me of some experiment i read about a while ago where men's anxiety levels increase when theyre in shopping centres.
I'm a check out chick, and am definately not like the one in your story! I always talk to the tofu-buyers and if someone buys caged eggs.... i'll squish their bread with a 2kg bag of rice.
I guess its not all shopping centers only ones im not familiar with or don't go to that often. I usually shop at foodland which is a rely good laid back family owned business but they don't always have mock meats so i have to go to coles.
at coles the staff their are pretty rude, there are always shitbag kids running around everywhere and its rely big and spread out so i spend ages looking for what i want.
