hi i'm trying to become a vegetarian but i don't know exactly what i can and can't eat are there any websites or information pack that i can look at for help?
Hey, what I found helped was downloading all the iphone/android apps I could find so whilst I was out and about, if it wasn't too sure what an ingredient actually was it could just whip out my phone it would tell me. One I found helpful was Animal-Free, also E Numbers for android and Healthy Kid for iphone. All are free. I think there is one for fast-food as well, but I find it easier just not to eat fast food at all :p Healthier too.
Also, I found spending a little bit of money and just getting a veg recipe book gave a the low down at the start of the book to tell me where to find my nutrition and all that.
this should probably be in the 'introduce yourself'.. vegetarianism isn't always about food.
it is more about animal welfare than anything. and your own welfare and well being.
So try be more open minded about it, then not eating meat wont be a difficulty, if that is what you want to do.
Start finding tasty alternatives is the best place to begin. And then maybe a new frame of mind.
Going veg seems like a big change at first, but it's actually easy.
They are top pages - really helpful.
And apologies if this has been mentioned on any other threads but about a week ago I found the Vegan Tim Tams and Kingston-like chocolate biscuits in the new Woolworths Macro range - Oh my Dog I could live on them! Sooo good!
Just giving up "flesh" chicken, fish, meat is a start. Then if you want to become vegan, that includes dairy, eggs, gelatine, rennet, leather/suede goods and products (ie cosmetics) tested on animals.
Vegetarian/Vegan Society in Qld also have a veg starter kit. You don't have to live in Qld either.
