this place is cool but i feel like a traitor because ive started eating meat, for my iron and yes i know it's weak.
i feel like i dont deserve to have a profile on here. its up to you if you want to delete it. i dont mind.
Hi Steph, you obviously care about animals, and therefore you belong here just as much as everyone else, and we want you to stick around!! Unleashed is a place for EVERYONE, whether you're a meat eater, vegetarian, or vegan, absolutely everyone is welcome. Especially at times when you might be struggling a bit with the veg thing, a lot of us have been there too and are very happy to help/give some advice, or just be an audience for the occasional rant!
i know i know. iron supps give me dioreah im so sorry i had to say it its gross i know and a bit embarressing.
Don't be embarrassed. I've been struggling with the same issues lately. I have enough iron in my blood at the moment but my stores are almost at 0 (I think they were at 2 but they're meant to be about 15 I believe). I've always had iron issues though, even when I ate meat.
And I can't take the supplements either, they do the same to me as they do to you

I have a friend who has this problem too. She gets really tired at about half way through the day every day. You can take Vit C pills with your iron tabs to help absorb them better too. But maybe you should go to a naturopath who can help determine what system in your body may be blocking your absorption of iron and help to clear it with homeopathy or a particular diet.
Regular exercise can also help your body to get into a better rhythm and do what it's meant to.
yeah my doctor told me about vitamin c absorbing iron better. i also have the iron orange juice, and i went for a 1 hour walk on my treadmill and im going to be doing that everyday til i reach my goal weight. im not eating much meat tbh, i had a bit of chicken thats all. im just doing this to get my strength back.
I don't know if you're taking vitamin C already, but it can cause awful diarrhea, so if you started taking both at the same time, maybe just try the iron supplement on it's own in case it's the vitamin C. I can't take vit. C at all. It makes me terribly ill.

Yeah, I've been tossing up whether or not I should do that. I decided to try a homeopathic iron supplement from over the counter first and the results were the same as with regular iron so onto the next thing!
Hi Steph, I have been told by several nutritionists that Floravital is an excellent iron supplement for sensitive people who can suffer from digestive problems. It is a liquid and I find it to be great. You can see a photo/description of it here, but I find it at most good health food stores, I think sometimes doctors don't know all the vitamins that are available: http://www.discountvitaminsexpress.com.au/cgix/display.asp?prodID=29112
I also know a couple of vegans who have trouble absorbing vitamins who just get an Iron and B12 injection at the doctors... I think it might be every 3 or 6 months?.... would have to check on that, but they thought it solved all their probs...
Everyone's body is so different, I think often when you make a big change to your diet, even though it's a healthier one it can sometimes take a while for your body to adjust and it may need a helping hand with some supplements, etc... good luck with it and please stay as part of the Unleashed community! Your heart is obviously in the right place for wanting to help animals... just do what you need to do and don't stress, that will only hurt your body more... If you want to go veg I'm sure you will get there eventually

My sister gets the B12 shots to help with the iron, but first she needed an iron infusion, then the B12 shots started. For her they started off as every day for a week, then weekly for a month, then every 3 months until whenever. She can tell when her body needs it again too - she gets all miserable and tired. Her body can't consume iron in tablet form so the B12 is meant to help her body along with the process. So far it's still working (over 3yrs later)
But yes do go to a naturopath - when it comes to vitamins and such they know more than any silly doctor will. And hang in there - the animals need you too
