**Aimeee - if you do vegan education why did you criticise this as "telling people what to do" initally?
I thought you would ask me that. It's a bit convoluted but I do think that getting the word 'vegan' out into society is good, so it becomes closer to being accepted instead of being labeled 'extreme'. The more times people see the 'vegan', hear 'vegan', and/ or meet a vegan, the less stigma is attached to that word. It's good for the general population to be exposed to the word in a variety of settings.

I think the 'go vegan' message is only going to appeal to a very small amount of people who are either already vegetarian or are at the tipping point of making a change in favour of animals.

I don't want to spend the majority of my time as an activist going around telling the general public what to do because that's not the most constructive use of my time (in my opinion), I'd rather give them information and talk about alternatives instead of wave an instruction at them or shout an instruction at them which could cause them to run for the hills and never know about what's going on in the production of the food that they eat.

This rally is not the time to confuse people with alternative goals. We need to ban live export NOW!

I think you should have your own " Educate the world about veganism'' rally and let AA do their thing. This, after all is what they want to do.

I don't believe the rally on the 14th is the appropriate time or place to push veganism, as it will dilute what the rally is protesting against.  If you want to organise another medium to promote veganism I suggest you do it independently as you are riding on the back of a lot of hard working dedicated people who have been sweating for months to ban the live export trade.
It is not a diet issue it is a live export cruelty issue.  DO NOT CONFUSE AND UPSET OUR RALLY.
I implore you all not to do this tomorrow the 14th as you have all walks of life.   People who consume with informed choices and those that don't it is entirely their business.

PS Your title doesn't make any sense if you are promoting veganism why do you want to ban it?

Lynn White from Animals Australia has organised this and would hate to see the fight diluted by your issue.

Baby steps.

Oraganise your own awareness campaign Katie.  You cannot go off topic and make this a personal vendetta.  People who are attending the protest are not all vegans.  There are some. There are vegetarians.  There are meat consumers as well.  Don't slap other people in the face just because they don't follow your dietry habits.  It will make a circus of the entire event.  You put in the hard work and organise something yourself.  You write to Parliament and the people who make decisions in this country.  People who are attending this rally have worked tirelessly to ban the live export trade and we would appreciate others with their own agendas not to muddy the waters.
Thank you for your co-operation.

Katie, I believe you are a well meaning lovely soul.  I have never in my life told anyone what they should or shouldn't eat. (Except perhaps my children or husband, particularly if it is bad for their health)  I wouldn't dare invade others space.  If someone eats or orders something at a restaurant and I would probably gag over it, I remain silent and eat my choice and I would expect the same respect in return.  It is actually quite rude to make comments or look down on peoples food selections at restaurants or anywhere else for that matter.
People do and always will have choices, and the reality is that veganism will never be worldwide, so we must compensate by being respectful and never be cruel to animals of anykind.  We certainly can encourage kind behaviour, but what people eat is another matter.
I am not vegan, nor vegetarian for that matter.   I make informed choices and fully support Lyn White in her campaign.
I have made the pledge not to eat any meat for a month, and that is exactly what I am doing.  Actually I haven't eaten any red meat, pork or veal since the campaign began.  I will never eat veal or lamb or suckling pork again, as they are babies.  Until they clean up the trade in Australia and free Sows, chickens and sheep, they are off the agenda also.
In summing up there is no need to use the rally tomorrow for your cause.

"If every person convinced one person to go vegan, and then they convinced one person to go vegan, we would have a vegan world in 7 years!"

Can you elaborate on how you came to this figure?  Doesnt make a lot of sense to me because you didn't mention how long each conversion takes.  What if each conversion takes 20 years?

How long does each conversion take in your model?
