Cassie1, it's very possible to raise veg*n children. My 14 month old daughter is one. Make sure to do some research before committing yourself and your child, as babies/toddlers have slightly different dietary requirements than us adults. There's a plethora of websites that have information for parents wanting to raise their child veg*n. Facebook has a number of groups dedicated to veg*n parents, e.g Sydney vegan parents. Be sure to look them up or post here for any further questions.

Remember: A parent feeding their child meat is just as indoctrinating as another parent removing animal products from their child's diet tongue

My mother was a catholic meat eater, she brought me up eating meat and going to sunday mass, and eating meat and dairy, because that is what she knew, she believed this was best for me.
When I grew up I made the decision to move away from the church, and stop eating meat and dairy, because I believed this was best for me.

You bring your children up as you would like yourself to be brought up, and how you see being best for them.
As vegans we all know you can live a healthy (most of the time healthier) life avoiding those products, so why not instill those values in your children too? you know they're going to be safe doing so. When they're old enough to make a decision, as I was with my parents, they will make their own decision on what to put in their mouths.

One of my girlfriends has a 5 year old vegan boy, she's bringing up with vegan and straightedge values.
This boy has openly yelled at waiters for getting their order wrong in restaurants (putting cheese or mayo on it or something similar) without any prompting from his mother.
And also referred to people who drink alcohol as being idiots, which is something his mother also didn't say to him!
He attends rallys and fundraisers for animal rights with her and holds up his little banners, it probably helps that she owns her own vegan bakery.

But it's all about teaching them what YOU think is right. Not what anyone else thinks is right.
I hope to one day be like that... bringing up children with the same values as I .. love
Hopefully they will continue to agree and fight for animal rights as they grow... but that's a little way yet, first plan to open up vegan cafe. happy

i no you can be perfectly heathy and still get all the right nutreants from not eating meat, when im older my kids will be bought up with the same morals i have, there is no proof saying you need meat, therefor i think its fine to bring kids up vegetrain/vegan broccoli

Of course it would be! What is so wrong with bringing up kids with vegetables and fruit rather than nuggets and burgers? My friend (omni) said that we shouldn't make our kids vego when their young "because they should have a choice"

HOW ABOUT ME?!!! At first, I didn't get a choice on going vego at all! Sigh…its no different to raising omni kids anyway.

*sigh* You never really see people saying that about religious people, do you?

No matter what you do, you push your beliefs on your children. There's no way to avoid it.

Raise them eating meat? Pushing your opinion that eating meat is right.

Raise them Vegan? Pushing your opinion that consuming meat, eggs and dairy is wrong.

Raise them Christian? Pushing your opinion and beliefs about God.

The list goes on and on! You just can't avoid it. So raise your children however you see fit!

Brace yourself OP, you're in for a lifetime of criticism from ignorant people - I say this as a mother of a vegetarian three year old.

I roll my eyes when I hear people say vegetarians deprive their children of choice, isn't that what an omni does ie deprive the child of the choice to not eat meat.

Definitely do your research, not only so that you're feeding your child well but so you have enough ammunition to fire back at the constant questions eg where do you get your protein lol

Don't despair cassie1. I have friends who have raised their children vegan/vegetarian from birth and they are doing just fine into their teens!

Sadly, people are easily swayed by the meat eating advertising that consumes our society.
Someone quoted to me the other day that when humans started eating meat, they evolved higher brain function. My response - wasn't that a Sam Neill advert for Pork? lol

Meat eating children are by no means automatically more healthy than non-meat eaters. You only have to look at the sales of Maccas and over processed food products combined with our increasing obesity and diabetes epidemic for proof of this!

Stay strong and goodluck xxx
