I thought the word retard was not an insult? I thought that was the actual word for it? Correct me if im wrong, i just thought retard was a correct term :S
In 1850 it was the correct term
Ow
It is inappropriate.
as if i care what you think
i was showing sympathy for retarded people. retarded being a medical term.
I dont know if there is some fancy new word that is being enforced on us by some Marxist fascists and I dont really care.
Apparently we cant say disabled either. Some moron with too much time on their hands decided it was offensive

Retard is a verb, it means to hold back, to slow down. A person's learning or mental capabilities may be retarded, but using the word "retard" as a description of a person is incredibly offensive.
Yes, person first disability second though "retard" is just not PC.
It's called people first language, if you're not familiar with it please familiarise yourself.
Im not pretending to know what it's like. Im allowed to have an opinion on something, whether it has anything to do with me or not. It has nothing to do with you, but because you have a lovely opinion of homeless people your opinion is much more justified than mine?
Im not pretending to know everything about it, and i dont know that they're not trying- some will be, some wont be. As i said, some have proved that they can do it- and they go on and have great lives, so i didnt at all say that none of them try...
How do you have an opinion on it if you're not informed on it in any way?
Is anyone here more informed on it than I though? How is it everyone else is an expert? But because I have a different opinion, I have no idea?
I'd say so yeah, Ames said she (?) has been homeless in the past. Doesn't get much more informed than that. I don't pretend to have a clue what it's like to be homeless, but I pay attention when experts talk, the abc quite often runs stories on homelessness (Richard Stubbs' program especially) and it's not uncommon for The Age to report on homelessness either. I've also talked to homeless people quite a few times in the past. By the sound of some of the comments you've made it seems like your opinion is designed to dismiss helping homeless people because they're apparently lazy and absolve yourself of any guilt you may feel.
And regarding the "aboriginal" rapists stories, consider this; had it been a caucasian rapist would you have even brought it up? Would you ever say "oh may friend was raped by 8 white guys"... The fact that you felt the need to mention that the offender was "aboriginal" shows you're thinking which whether you like it or not, is racist.
Hell yeah I wouldve brought it up. I dont like white people any more than I like black people. All races have huge disapointments, and it has nothing to do with their race- it's how they're brought up and how they choose to be.
Exactly, it has nothing to do with their race so why bring up their race?
My friend is an asthmatic
oh dear god, i mean um,, he is a person who suffers, no, a person who is dealing with, no a person living and fulling functioning as a normal human with a defect, no a diverse airway

With your people skills and lack of empathy & compassion, I'm surprised your asthmatic friend tolerates your attitude to be honest.

Cool guy right here. When has asthmatic ever been a derogatory term?

it's not PC. It's decribing them as their illness rather than seeing them as a human.
no offence but you sound very bigoted

Again, you're speaking from a position of privelege, perhaps if you were in the position of disadvantage and the one being referred to as a "retard" you'd have more understanding. It's quite easy to dismiss something when it has no impact on you directly, it's what meat eaters do everyday.
Striving for empathy in life is a better way to go though. And when someone has called you on being highly offensive how about taking a look at the way you're communicating.

How is an asthmatic person any different to a 'normal' person? I doubt an asthmatic person wouldnt be friends with someone who is 'judgemental' or whatever, just because they're asthmatic?
