I am a vegetarian in the process of becoming a vegan. There are a few things I am a little confused about. Wine is one of them things. I have heard that some wines have egg in them and maybe other things. Is this true and how do you know what wines are vegan, cos I love my wine. But I love the animals more...... chick confused

Yes, some wines contain egg. I could be wrong but I have heard that a few wine companies use fish in the wine making process.

EDIT: A google search confirmed that fish bladder can be used in wine making.

You can purchase Vegan reds & whites Dan Murphy's has a selection - quite good drinking. Usually in Organic wine section read labels. Yes many wines use egg as filtration and can enter finished product & some fish products are used in wine making - who knows why - colour, taste !!!?? Beer is another to be aware of.

Yup, most wines are fined using isinglass (fish bladder), egg and milk. As these products are not in the final product they don't usually state on the label. Some do now which is good.

I usually stick to Barnivore or Vegetarian Network Victoria.

I just discovered that all Yalumba / Oxford Landing wines are vegan. Even states "vegan" on the label! They're easy to find in all liquor shops and they're cheap at $6-$7 a bottle.
