This has to be one of the worst anti-vege articles I've read for a long time and from someone who usually produces intelligent and well thought out ones.
You know they're running out of justification for their actions when they resort to "carrots may feel pain." Y'know...ignoring their lack of pain sensors, brains and central nervous systems.
Gosh.. anti-vegetarian articles often bring out the poorest arguments in people. It does't look like she went so far as to even consider basic biology or fact check any of her ideas before writing this. *sigh*
notice how they always pick your arguments for you
"if killing is wrong then......."
No one ever said killing was wrong, except some deluded hippies
If anyone can come up with a good argument as to why it ISNT cruel to lock a chicken in a filthy cage for the entirety of it's life, let me know. And then convince that I should support it.
I wonder if the National Times even bothered to read that article before they published it.
I think the problem with a lot of online "journalism" these days is that a lot of it's published to be controversial often with silly arguments just so as to gain site hits. The National Times seems to have a gay marriage article at least once a week which brings out all the religious weirdos and gets lots of hits.
This is why I can't stand columnists. They're such a waste of space. All they do is look for facts that back up their preconceived opinions (I'm sure we're all guilty of this, we don't make it our full tine job though). National Times/The Age/SMH publish some great opinion pieces when they have guest writers. There's always really informative articles written by professors of this and that, ex politicians etc. People with first hand experience. But I can't stand the fact distortion and cherry picking of the staff columnists of any of the major papers.
It's not just that I disagree with some of the opinions either. Take Peter Costello for example, I don't think a whole lot of the guy (although he sure knew how to balance a budget) but I always find what he has to say very insightful. So it's not that I only read the paper to confirm my views or anything.
