hey i rang the fair trading act and they suggested sending a letter to the store and head branch.I did and the store sent me a response saying they will not refund as they paid the vets bill of 500.00 and that my 200.00 refund was used for same. She told me that the vet has agreed to pass on the actual bill to me and then the pet shop would refund me..if i wasnt happy with not having a refund...Now if i continue to pursue this i may be stuck with the vet bill which would be more than 500.00 as this was at shop price..I have rung RSPCA and they will check the shop out once they get the vet report.
Maybe try your local member of parliament for some advice or try Debra Tranter @ oscarslaw because that doesn't sound right to me that you will be billed for the vet bills that the pet store have inccured while the puppy was in their care, and sounds like they're "just passing the buck" not to take responsibility. Defenitely get more advice.
Up until recently I worked for pets paradise. Don't buy your dogs from there, the store i worked at knowingly sold a puppy with serious health conditions and didn't care nor are they willing to take responsibility for the pet.
They also pay under award wage and treat their employees with little respect expecting them to work hours for free and change shifts with less than a days notice. They often don't pay employees on time.
Another store's employees were forced by the franchisee owner to take 6 guinea pigs out the back and kill them all because they didn't want to pay the $30 to get them put down.
Pets Paradise advertise that all animals are healthy at time of entering the stores they state that they will never knowingly sell a sick animal and that they will be fully vaccinated wormed and de fleed including microchipped if they have not done that then it's their responsibility as it's false advertising. But they will get you if you didn't get the health guarantee done at their vet. They're a sleezy company who will screw people over with no remorse as an x employee I saw how they treated people.
If the animal was sick within 7 days and you went through the pet agreement they by law have to honour the pet agreement which states full refund. I use to work for them and whilst many of the staff are nice the management is quite questionable.
Complain your ass off, make them listen: and get your money back. It sucks you bought an animal from a pet store, but educate yourself a bit on the issue and use your experience to convince people you know personally to get pets from shelters if they are looking. People come under a false impression that animals from Pet Stores are much healthier than animals found elsewhere, while clearly, this is not the case.
Hi Shell. I'm wondering which store you bought from?
I met a puppy today at a Pets Paradise store & the kids & I absolutely fell in love with her. She's 16 weeks old & I intend to have her checked by our vet anyway (we already have another little dog - which we bought from another not-so-reputable puppy store).
I was told there is a 3 day cooling off period, so I presume if our vet finds anything that we SHOULD be able to take her back (though of course I hope this is not the case).
Anyway, just wondering which store yours was from. We are on Brisbane south side.
Thanks,
Debbie.

It sounds like you already know that pet shops are bad? Why did you buy a dog from there?
Maybe you should have a look at where the cute little puppy that you absolutely fell in love with came from? Because you sure as hell wouldn't fall in love with her dying mother.
Edit: Why don't you go to a shelter? If you don't like shelters, go to a rescue organisation that runs through foster care. I am fostering a 4-month-old blue merle Koolie, who will be adopted out to the right home, but will remain fostered in my home until then.
I had a purebred dog that came from a breeder who was a lover of that particular breed. She died in the end of a stroke. She was the best dog I'd ever had and I loved her dearly. She had been gone for almost a year when I was walking past my local Pets Paradise after doing some shopping. There sitting in the corner of one of those "tanks" was a dog who was the splitting image of her.
I had never bought an animal from a pet shop, but I must admit, this time I completely caved. I played with her for a little while on the floor, I rubbed her tummy and called her to come to me, to get a feel of her personality. She seemed like a nice dog and I decided to take her paying Pets Paradise over $1200. Then started the pressure sales after I had just spent over a thousand dollars. The clerk led me around the shop trying to sell me everything from collars to food, to toys, to worming tablets. I had to be very firm with her to get her to stop.
So I take the dog home and she is cute. She is treated very well. Very spoilt like all of our animals. At 6 months of age I start to notice very slowly that she has some sort of anxiety disorder. When someone new came to the house she would roll on her back and wet all over herself. She would not take to a lead, no matter how long we tried. She would just sit and refuse to move. She hated the car also and would not get in, once in, and reassured, she would vomit and the car had not even started moving. It became clear to me that she needed special care. Someone who knew all of her problems but was willing to work very hard to help her. I ended up giving her to a very caring neighbor who had a daughter of an age that was able to care for and love the dog. I was and still am confident that the dog was put with very good people and I hear she's doing great 5 years later.
There is no doubt in my mind this dog came from a puppy farm. At $1200 they would have had to pay something to the breeder to be asking that much. More serious though is I believe the dog was bred for strictly for looks... temperament was NOT a consideration here.
I believe the mother was just thrown together with another good looking dog to produce good looking puppies. That was the first and last time I will ever buy a Pet from a pet shop.
Years later we decided to get another dog and ended up getting another purebred. We paid $400 for her from a lady who was a member of the breeds society who had her dog sired by another reputable breeders dog. We got a little dog who is full of confidence, that has no behavioral problems what so ever.
These places need to be boycotted desperately. Our local Pets Paradise at Carindale has it's windows stocked continuously with destressed cats and dogs. You can smell the cages as you walk by. The animals in the shop are purely a commodity and they use them to induce pity in the buyer.
