That was lovely, everyone was so gentle with the animals. So nice to see, thanks for sharing happy

Was that maggie's beak that way from an injury? How is that gorgeous bird now?

Thanks! Vid was only shot last week so not sure of her progress just yet! She seemed to be recovering nicely though happy That mag was sick due to a lack of calcium which forms weaknesses so hopefully she'll be better soon!!

So her beak will get better? That's great!

My dad is obsessed with maggies. He has a family that eat out of his hand now. First it was just Mr and Mrs Smudgy (yes, he named them!) but now they have a little bub too and yesterday the baby ate from his hand for the first time - he was chuffed. They're so sweet they sit on the railing and warble for him until he comes out to feed them. And if I come to visit, they see the car drive in and fly down and warble as if to say (Oy tell your dad to come out and feed us some more will ya?'

On the topic, he feeds them cashews (see seriously, only the best for these birds!). I tell him he's gonna make them fat - but as you mention a lack of calcium is seriously damaging to them, maybe he is doing them a favour after all.

Would you recommend cashews, or should he mix it up a bit?

I keep telling him he should volunteer for a wildlife rescue now that he's retired because he is SO good with animals!

I'm sure you certainly expected to hear me ramble on about magpies when you posted here huh?  ashamed

Yes any rambling about animals is fine tongue!! So good to hear someones looking after the animals happy
As I am no expert about their nutrition needs I'm not sure what to say about the cashews! Maggies practically eat anything and if it hasn't damaged them this far into it, they should be fine!
Is your dad in WA? Kanyana is located in Lesmurdie (hills of Perth) and are always looking for volunteers happy

Thanks for the reply! Well I guess the magpies get to keep the expensive cashews then! The pigeons are SO jealous ...and me too, a little bit  wink

No we're in SA, but there's a few here. I was thinking something like Fauna Rescue, where you do some training and then they give you animals sometimes to look after at your house, til they can be released again.
A friend of mine used to do that and when she had a baby possum to care for I nearly died from the cuteness overload!

But it looks like you guys do such great work, hopefully some of our WA members will hit you up on this post!  thumb
