Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on this new Peta campaign?

Personally I think campaigns like this are why so many people dislike Peta.
Take a look at these comments: http://au.ds.ign.com/articles/121/1212427p1.html

Peta do a lot of great work for animals, I just don't see why they need to waste their time and money dissing a video game which doesn't effect animals whatsoever! It's not real! And for those who have ever played Mario will know that he doesn't kill an animal to receive the Tanooki suit...he gets his power from a magical leaf.

Yeah, I agree, I get their point but its sort of... dumb?
Along with this article being one of the reasons people hate PETA, I was told that they spend WAY too much money on advertising and as a result have unfortunatly neglected a bunch of animals to their death. Which is really sad!
Maybe it was just one time, a long time ago, but they do seem to be a little bit too much about the image than the cause sometimes.
That aside, I'm still glad we have Peta =)

I also feel like PETA put too much into their ads that don't really do much anymore .. maybe they need to look at some other agencies. Or even better, to use the money more appropriately like in research and yes, better care for the animals.

Mmm, kinda depends whether they are really doing it to Mario or just using a very clever way to keep fur in everyone's minds. It reminds me of a chapter in Dan Mathews' memoirs where he talks about that exact issue.

P.S - Has anyone won the game yet!? I'm not that good it seems.

PETA is a bit of a joke - they hurt there own cause ... This is one of the reasons why i dont support PETA, am i a cruel person becouse i play mario games and use special suits such as the bee suit in Mario Galexy?

PETA are pathetic at times ...

I wonder if PETA realises that Mario is a fictional character. Mario has heaps of animal based suits. (Penguin suit ftw) When you get an animal suit, fur and the animal clothing industry isn't generally the first thing that comes into mind...

Mario is a fictional character?! Lies! *covers eyes and pretends he didn't read that*

I just don't understand PETA sometimes. Sure, they do some good stuff, but with all the "hell no!" and "wtf?" I have for so much of what they do, I just can't even care anymore whenever I see their name, the only reason I even clicked this thread was the mention of Mario.

Also, Mario totally wants to attack Bowser again. Go get him PETA!

To make things even more confusing, PETA has a game called "new super chick sisters" based on mario...
-And also, that game is old. They just notice that now?

I think it's kind of going a bit far. Nintendo's response is: “Mario often takes the appearance of certain animals and objects in his games…These lighthearted and whimsical transformations give Mario different abilities and make his games fun to play.  The different forms that Mario takes make no statement beyond the games themselves.” Totally agree. There's NOTHING in the game that implies that this is a real raccoon skin. It's a game equivalent of wearing this: http://home.comcast.net/~toonfox/fursuit/Raccoon2.jpg

I don't know...I really feel that stuff like this is counterproductive. It really turns a lot of people OFF the cause of animal rights as opposed to raising awareness. Pick your battles....
