Hi,

Whilst animal testing was the main thing that got me to being vegetarian/vegan/whatever, I still thin

k that animal testing has its place but ONLY if it is well regulated and absolutely necessary and ONLY if the product being tested can cure serious/fatal diseases/illnesses. I argue, what is the alternative - giving up on cures/vaccines for aids, cancer etc., testing on humans?

R.
apparently the origins of AIDS can be traced back to humans slaughtering closely related apes and f**king them and torturing them.

so... ... maybe doing more of the same (call it re-search), won't solve the "DIS- Ease".....

we know how to prevent it... by not sleeping with complete strangers who spend every chance they can get on a night out to sex people in teh butts and so on.

there is a pretty clear cure for STDs... I guess noone can comprehend a life not driven by sex. but anyway i see your point maybe

appendix: many plants, if threatened by adverse conditions or disturbed roots will prolifically produce fruits, this is a defense mechanism and so you might find plants in the ideal setting, growing stable for many years before fruiting a mature crop...

but in our society which wants to leech anything you give, this concept makes sense for why everything people rave about, is addictive AND puts the body at risk and thus probably engages this very same defensive mechanism

breed when under threat...

or in our society with 'standards' in place.. this is just a mental concentration companies can hook into to sell you objects as though they are sexy by association to the addiction (or replace something you're apparently lacking without).

p.s. this doesn't mean go and dig up your old tree roots to get more fruit,
it is just worth thinking about, this rush and grasp to hold life's time,
might be causing many adverse outcomes which we grief about,
but knowing the truth and reality are unwilling to fix.

As it might mean admitting we're lost, broken and in need of everything we have sacrificed for everything we were told to want.

I cannot believe what some people are saying. The main reason people become vegan or vegetarian is because they believe in being humane, and then they sickeningly suggest we test on people who are UNwilling?! I'm vegan as I don't believe in taking a life - ANYONE'S. If someone murdered my mother, I would not want them sentenced to death, as killing them achieves nothing and does not change the fact she is dead. It is a very strange strange thing for vegans to agree with. Why are so many people so ignorant to the system we have - so SO many people in jail and sentenced to the death penalty are completely innocent! SO many! Those people being jailed and killed when they're innocent is bad enough, but then to subject them to experimentation's? You think it's not ok for animals but ok to do to humans - that's so hypocritical! In my opinion you're not really a vegan if you think it's ok to torture, abuse and kill ANY living being. You're just as bad as a meat eater justifying killing all those animals to eat - there is not a difference.

The only time anyone should be experimented on is when consent is given. There is so many people will to be a part of studies and experiments, some for the money, some because they want to help, and others because they want to take the chance that they'll be cured, it isn't too hard to find them, it's just more expensive then trialling on animals, which is why they use animals in the first place. As someone else mentioned, testing on animals is not reliable as they are a different species to us and we react differently. It's unnecessary, it's not about improving our human health, it's about making money, because these days, there are ways to test without harming any unwilling BEING (ANIMALS AND HUMANS INCLUDED.)

Wow I hate hypocrites.

I don't think Animal testing is necessary at all. However, if there was a serious animals disease, they might have to test on one sick pig to save the lives of the other sick pigs.
It's baffling.  confused

I think we should test on humans: particularly, willing humans. I don't think humans are above animals, or more valuable (in fact I think we are the most destructive force on the earth and in fact often find myself liking animals much more than humans): and therefore we should not be testing on innocent species for our own benefit.
I more than agree. This is a good way of putting it!

I can't be bothered reading all this thread so I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but, we don't have death row in Australia... so the 'test on bad humans' thing is kind of invalid.
