A bunch of us went to their facebook page http://www.facebook.com/woolworths and told them how we feel. It's not really going on anymore, but for two or three days it was pretty much Vegan vs Everyone else.
So this is what you were talking about, Jordan. I tried finding it online after you commented on the jelly baby thing but I couldn't. Now I feel like boycotting the b******s altogether. What a crock! :/
I don't think the ad is worth anyone getting personally offended over. Though I do agree that it is a stupid ad which made a very poor attempt at making a humorous joke. I actually laughed a little at how pathetic it was.
I don't know if anyone would be silly enough to actually offer a vegetarian ham because of this ad (though I probably wouldn't be surprised if they did) I could however imagine parents jokingly offering their children ham which would be annoying.
I'm not going to boycott Woolworths because of the ad - though I always try to shop elsewhere as much as possible.
Coles had the "everybody eats meat" ad and now Woolworths has this. It's hard to make a commitment to boycott both of these companies unless a) you have enough money to buy vegan products online OR b) have an alternative local company which stocks vegan products. I have neither of those. So for now I will continue to buy my vegan products from Coles/Woolworths and buy my fruit/veg from the markets and fruit shops
I followed Jordans lead and had a little say (on someone elses post in this case) on the Woolies FB page, and this is what the Woolies folk just posted beneath said remark (copied and pasted, thus containing their typo's...):
'H All, thanks for your feedback on our latest My Family TV ad. We’re genuinely sorry if the ad has offended you. We never intended to upset our vegetarian and vegan customers and want to assure you that we respect everyone’s food choices. Our aim was to talk about the quality of our hams for those customers who do eat meat. We tried to do that in a light-hearted and humorous manner but recognise that approach has caused offence to some of you. We’d like to let you know that a new version of the ad has been created and you’ll start seeing it on air from tomorrow morning. Thank you.'
