good leafleting session today; got out about a 3 inch stack of leaflets alone.
this wasn't though a normal leafleting session; a strange thing happened -- i had a conversation with a man who use to run an intensive piggery.
he explained to me, less than 3 years after buying the operation and running it, he just had to stop. the connection he had with animals was too great for him to continue farming them and imprisoning them in such horrid conditions. he told me of how horrible and guilty he felt sending the pigs to slaughter, with them trusting him as much as his faithul kelpy work dog did. what was even more amazing though was that, due to seeing and being agribusiness, he couldn't just remove himself from the industry, but he had to go vegetarian.
i really can't imagine having a conversation like this again.

Gosh Matt, that sounds incredible! But it's not surprising to hear that the animals themselves make the best advocates when in the presence of someone who really does care about the wellbeing of others.
Have you read anything of Howard Lyman out of interest? He's known as the 'mad cowboy', a 4th generation rancher-turned-advocate who is very outspoken and talks of his insights of intensive agribusiness in the USA. Quite an interesting fellow!
