If you have to ask yourself if it's immoral to have kids, you shouldnt have kids. wipe yourself from the gene pool. I'm tempted to use the word Orwellian
Bit harsh. I don't think simply questioning and considering something before doing it a bad thing. :L

1. what happens when you 'accidentally' have more than 1 child... it goes up for adoption?
Send it to McDonalds, where they will turn it into a burger. Lol jokes.
Have a large fine? i'm not sure exactly what they could do, or what China does.
Compulsory sterilisation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compulsory_sterilization
I read that they fine, sterilise, or push for abortion :S
haha I heard that from you...

i'm talking like... back of the car seat birth.. second child is 3 y.o before the authorities find out kind of stuff not... planned.. and doctor certified twin abortion.. ew...

my point was... what is a child up for adoption?... how does it occur and do the reasons and THUS moral bindings vary depending on what part of the world this 'orphaning' occurs... very likely, vastly differing processes and causes.

so... no... people who can't feed one child.. shouldn't have 27 just so they can splash around in the river being eaten by anacondas and fighting off trawling crews with wooden sticks and coconuts

I disagree!

and people living a decent standard of life, shouldn't be dictated to having only one of their own... it is a work around for not actually solving a problem, just treating the symptom as almost everything in western practice

"It is estimated that out of all species that have ever lived, 99.9% of all species have gone extinct."

Will we be part of the 0.1%? *is taking bets*

everyone isn't an idiot though... and it is easier for idiots to obviously not be confined by the laws of common decency and accepted practice so the only people you're inflicting this opinion upon... are all of those who don't need it to be 'difficult' to have a child, to 'force' them to be what?? more compassionate human beings.. this topic is starting to get stupid

I'm probably going to get fired upon for this, but I would love to have children of my own. It is something I have always wanted, however, I'm not so ignorant to see all of your views on adoption. If I ever discovered I was unable to have children, I would definably consider adoption.

I do agree with your points on over population and it does seem a viable option, however, for me personally having a child of my own that I have produced with someone I love is something that I would like to do. It may be selfish in your eyes, or you may not agree, but this is just something I have always wanted to do.

P.S. Defiantly agree with the 'idiots' having children left, right, and centre. People don't seem to consider money or maturity.. or even over mature. It would be great if there was some sort of structure in place to ensure people were emotionally, socially and financially secure before having a child.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I really want children one day (not any time soon, haha) as something personal, and something emotionally I want to do. But there is still this logical part of me which disagrees with it. I don't think I'd ever have more than one though. And if I ever wanted another I would definitely consider adoption.

Before you commit yourselves and jump into the deep end...

Why is the world 'overpopulating'? Are there groups/cultures/nations responsible for, or contributing to, overpopulation? How do we know?

Is not having children of your own going to have an affect on overall population numbers? Will adopting make a difference? What are the potential consequences that can arise from adoption?

Why is not having children and/or adopting the right approach? If this is a global problem, what is the likelihood that people around the world would adopt the same approach? (no pun intended)

Do you realise what you'd be giving up? Why is choosing to have a child of your own selfish? What does this say about the world?
