Tsk...I agree, pamphlets and gentle smiles don't seem to be working very well. I don't think people are taking vegans or their message seriously...they quite simply don't want to know because not much is being done...mainstream... to grab their attention. You're dealing with herd mentality, key figures in the herd need to be brought on board to make the masses take notice or more dramatic attention grabbing strategies need to be initiated...and really where are the active vegan groups? All I've come across is people sitting in vegan restaurants eating vegan food and talking about being vegan...its not very motivational. The suffragettes didn't get the vote with pamphlets, neither did slavery end with pamphlets, even the greens know to tie themselves to trees and become political. Animal abuse is not going to end with words, pictures and pamphlets because people are not choosing to hear or see the message.
Its a catch 22 though. If we do become more active and implement strategies to catch the average joe's attention. Then the mainstream media label us as extremists/terrorists and demonize the cause. And of course, the great unwashed masses lap up whatever is shovelled at them.
I'm of the belief that we need to focus on spreading the message to the younger generation, that hasn't been indoctrinated by the speciesist agenda. Trying to get the message in schools and educational institutions is the way forward in my opinion.
