Where do your ethics end?

Something I've been curious about for a while is how far peoples' ethics go and where they end.
For example, I will not willingly hurt any animal - be it a dog, a spider, a worm or an aphid - but if it was specifically harmful to one of my own animals - like fleas, heartworm, etc - I will kill them.
Where do other people stand on ethics? What about your own animal's ethics? Would you feed brine shrimp to pet fish, or let your chicken forage for worms, etc?

I won't kill bugs, except for mosquitoes and fleas on my dog. I'm not sure why about the mosquitoes because really all they do is annoy me. I guess they can carry diseases but to be honest I'm more worried about being eaten alive.

I don't think I could keep an animal that required live food i.e. a snake or a lizard. But chickens will be chickens and there's really no alternative for them besides keeping them on a concrete floor which is not an option.

I don't think I've ever known a person to no kill a biting mosquito other than myself. I'll just get in a never ending shooing match with them. As far as flea's go I think prevention is the key. But once they're there there isn't really much choice is there?
We are after-all just animals too.

I kill fleas and ticks etc. as they are parasites which are damaging to my dogs health and well-being. I kill mosquitoes because we have a rabbit, and also because their buzzing and biting is annoying and they can carry diseases.
Our chickens are allowed to roam free in the yard and eat the insects that occur naturally. I would however not collect or buy insects for them to eat.
I don't feed brine shimp to my fish, but I do feed them food which contains a mixture of meats, as they are omnivores who could not survive solely on a plant-based diet.

I just make judgements on what I feel is necessary - nothing is really set in stone. I'm not going to deny my animal companions the right to do what comes naturally to them, and I'm not going to risk the state of their health and well-being by refusing to kill another living being, whatever it may be.
Overall as a vegan I'm more against enslaving animals for the selfish needs of humans.

I don't kill flies but my dog does. He gets really excited/annoyed when he sees one and won't stop hunting it until it's eaten. Yuck.

You can find a lot of information on the internet and in books regarding plants to complement your garden which deter different types of insects and bugs.

There is currently a rodent about my room some where 0-  '

'  -  O sooome where...

anyway i'm too much of a woos to hunt it down and get it out,
so I have left the back door to the garden open, but in doing so...
mosquitos are coming in... I probably draw the line at ... disease spreaders...

like cats and other feral biting things, just stirring.

nature yes has ways of dealing with plagues.. simply the subject runs out of fuel...
and so on. the problem is.... humans are the filth bringers ... fly rat and mosquito breeders... of probably their own plague cure.

BUT so.. spraying for mosquitos to protect mammals?
hmm I worry about frogs and so on...

also I know the mosquitos will die and provide food for fish and so on...

I was thinking about this the other day... we are so wasteful and greedy...
we allow anything that thrives in filth to survive ... our cities aren't the cleanest things.

Then we go about poisoning ourselves to deal with the symptoms of this greed, simply applying more... greed >_< so.. is there a way to deal with infestations, like soil parasites that harm your plants... without harming the pest.

Ethically we'd love there to be... just for the sake of both living things...
alas... we can comprehend this society too well... to see the greatest feat of man kind.. much easier to sweep under the rug wink and shrug off.

heh, as most truly crucial problems.. it is easy to avoid responsibility that take it ALL on. Esp considering the sublime rewards would carry probably profound consequences unforeseeable... we are conditioned to see things which harm us directly as hideous.. that if we were able to 'cure' of parasites the city by way of a 'cleanliness is close to godlyness' society.. maybe ecosystems would just collapse.. without apparent reason. who knows... some things might be better struggling to survive and given free rein.. with no antagonist... just fade out.

not me! haha, my room is just warm and cosy... poor critter, if only it wasn't fearfully dangerous... (merely concealing confident brashness like mindless bravery.. or mouse with brain parasites that liken to cats) i'd let it lease a draw or something.

I will kill flies as they firstly irritate the crap out of me, and secondly one of my dogs is prone to fly bites on her ears as they are really big and she can't flick them off.

I will kill mozzies as I have a rabbit and mozzies spread killer diseases for buns.

I will not kill snails or slugs, as I have many bobtails in my yard who look after that for me.

I hate to admit this, but we have killed a snake recently as it was a highly venomous snake and it was headed directly for my aviary. There was no time to call someone and wait. We hated doing it, but sadly it had to be done. Snakes will find a way to get into aviaries.

I relocate scorpions and centipedes.... and I wait for my partner to relocate spiders... but if a spider is near my daughter and I think it will cause her harm I'm sorry but it's gone. Usually I only have daddy long legs or baby huntsmen so they are typically ok... but I have had a few redbacks recently... they are killed instantly. No ifs no buts.

You aren't actually meant to feed live food to these kind of animals (unless you are rehabilitating them for release). It's not for the sake of the "food" but more for the snake/lizard, as if they are not hungry the "food" could start to harm them.
