Interesting post!

I don't try to intend bugs and spiders etc. but if they go near my budgies i sometimes do give them a bit of a violent flick.

this is a hard one...cant stand flies hate flees and mossies are just pains......use thingd to deter them but not kill....then there are ants..ive had trouble with ants and so has a girl i know who wouldnt kill a living thing, but push come to shove with ants in ur food and everywere else u must do something , myself i use a spray, the girl i know uses the vaccum cleaner,i guess it comes down to what u think is right.....it is a hard one
Hmm... personally I don't kill ants in that situation. Should the ants have to pay with their lives because of my complacency in leaving food out? It's takes ages to get rid of all of them (I either try blow them off or get them to crawl on my hand and then on to something else) but in my opinion to kill them would be to do so for one's own convenience. Each to their own though.

I love spiders so they live basically everywhere in my house - pisses everyone off in my household though haha.

I don't kill mossies either, just shoo them away. It's only the female ones that bite you and I don't agree with violence against women... tongue

I don't kill cockroaches, mosquitos etc, but I would kill head lice, or fleas. I would kill a tick on my rabbits as they can kill them. I also wonder what other vegans think of human issues - do you buy clothing produced in sweatshops, and things like that?

well i'm in the sin bin...

the reading room has a cockroach problem... well I should say HAD...

I surface sprayed the doorways....

Being on Hindley street you can imagine they blend in well with the other inhabitants, but the reading room just isn't the place for them...

They did tend to skuttle out around closing time.... but usually we're open past dusk and they  made their presence known.

If I could catch them and put them outside and expect it to be solved.... I would... but surface spray zones an area... and so maybe cockroaches, if everyone does their doorways... will learn where is risky to settle.

*sigh...

I pull every weed out by hand... never use poison at will... so it sucks.. but I feel I did the right thing.. I just did a huge vacuum and tidy up of the whole space.... and not coming across any live ones with the vacuuming was nice. Only a few dead ones' so maybe they hid away or something ^_^

I actually don't mind cockroaches and am aware they are very cleanly... but I want this space to be pleasant. Most people don't share my nonchalance.

I buy a lot of my clothing ethically, but I admit I still do buy clothing that is more than likely produced in sweatshops (if the cheap price is any indicaiton). I think it would be incredibly hard to boycott sweatshops altogether, as most companies choose to use sweatshop labour as it is means more money in their pockets. And this doesn't just apply to clothing, also the bulk of electronics, homewares etc. are manufactured in the same manner.

I think if people have an issue they need to contact the companies and express how they feel about them using sweatshop labour, and we also need to look to the governments of these countries who often knowingly allow it to continue.

I don't kill flies but my dog does. He gets really excited/annoyed when he sees one and won't stop hunting it until it's eaten. Yuck.
Hahaha. My dog does this with flies and the bees in the backyard.  She doesn't seem to care about getting stung.  I think they just might seem like huge flying lollies to her.

Oh dear and what abut the mice? I cant bring myself to hurt them and I cant bring myself to catch them and 'humanly' release elsewhere as I am afraid them someone else will kill them or they will starve to death or a bird will get them or something  cry
So now the mice and me live in kinda harmony.
what do you all do with your mice infestation?

They end when I no longer have the luxury to adhere to them.

We have 3 permanent indoor cats so mice/rats are never a problem in the house. Our shed on the other hand is a literal breeding ground. My husband found a nest of rats a while back but didn't have the heart (thank god) to kill them so we bought a humane trap and we release mice out in to our paddock and rats we try and release away from other houses, generally near hay sheds. I know it's bad for the hay but atleast they will have a permanent source of food and shelter. The rats cause so much trouble, they have destroyed heaps of antique stuff we had stored out there so there's no way they can stay but I won't allow them to die just because they are acting on instinct either.

Btw we waited for the babies to be weaned before we set the traps. Very detrimental to the box of stuff they were living in, and my dogs (and last night my cat) have caught a few of them unfortunately but that's nature. I am confident many survived to go on and reap havok.

yeah seeing a cat toy with a mouse is so much nicer than seeing an instantly dead one...

the mice hmm, well I guess I will try be more cleanly and make sure noone leaves crubs in the reading room and they should move away
