YAY Just wrote up the full story so you can check out the details. Now it's time to get the rest of Australia to do the same!

http://www.vegantasmania.com/2012/05/tasmania-bans-sow-stalls-and-battery.html

The budget stated yesterday that the money spent was for farmers to "“respond to market trends that indicate consumers are increasingly sensitive to animal welfare.”

VEGANISM WORKS MY FRIENDS! ecstatic

This is awesome news! I'm so excited!

But I'm just worried that the battery cages will just be replaced with colony cages. And then people will buy caged eggs thinking that they're okay, because battery cages are banned.

Regardless, it's a HUGE step forward. Thanks to Animals Australia and Brightside Farm Sanctuary!

I know what you mean. I think the motion they passed states that they have to be "free range" though we all know it's not really any better it's just different. However this is still a huge step forward. I am definitely most exited about the banning of sow stalls though as I think that will have the biggest difference.
