"Rangers say they are concerned about the safety of staff, bushwalkers and native animals and that they will refuse to help the government carry out the plan, which would make feral animals in 79 parks and reserves fair game for shooters."

Also a form to allow duck hunting which has been banned in NSW for over 20 years is supposed to be reintroduced at the end of this year!

I know it's ridiculous. All I can think is wtf is wrong with the people that are running this country!? How can something like this be allowed to go through...
A lot of native animals are going to be killed, feral animals are going to probably suffer more painful deaths due to inexperienced shooters, and peoples safety is going to be under threat!

They're already allowed in some Victorian National Parks. How long is an upper house term in NSW? It looks like you're going to be stuck with these nutters for a couple more years at least. Who knows what you'll be allowed to do in NSW by the time they lose the balance of power.

A friend mentioned this to me this morning. It's completely ridiculous. There was somewhere else that allowed recreational hunters into national parks, and an inexperienced hunter shot a woman dead, mistaking her for a deer.

Yeah this is allowed in a couple of other states in Australia.
I don't know about Australia, but apparently there have been quite a few deaths in NZ where recreational hunting is allowed in national parks.

I'm not sure how long the usual term is in NSW is, I think it's a maximum of 4 years? Though hopefully Barry O' Farrel won't keep his seat for that long. I would hate to see what kind of other policies he is going to put through in the future.

And I've just found out that CSG drilling has been approved in my suburb sad
Seems the current government proves once again that it has little to no concern about the environment.

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

People won't get hurt. Hunting in National Parks has been allowed for years in Victoria and New Zealand and they don't have a problem there...

Hunting has been allowed in NSW State Forests for years under the Game Council and there has never been a problem there...

Its not to make money. Hunting in National Parks will be for free, similar to hunting in State Forests in NSW.

Its allowed to go through because we live in a democracy and the Shooters and Fishers hold the balance of power.

Native animals won't suffer. Recreational hunters don't hunt native animals, they hunt feral animals: Its called Conservation Hunting. They hunt to remove feral animals from the State Forests and private property to preserve the environment FOR the native species.

Registered and licensed hunters must undergo strict licensing and testing before they hunt. They must prove their capability and responsible safety with a firearm. They are all proven marksmen/women, experienced, responsible and well trained.

People's safety won't be under threat, unless they hold a remarkable resemblance to a goat... which... ...never mind.

No, it's allowed to go through because we think we live in a representative democracy. Aaaand the Shooters and Fishers hold the balance of power. wink

Prior to, and after, the election, O'Farrell promised not to allow hunting in national parks. And then he broke that promise. Nothing new here, of course. (Gillard and Howard come to mind). Politicians really are the worst kind of salesmen. But that's our system, bugbears and all.

And does anyone know the specifics of this arrangement, or can show where one may read them, other than what's been broadcasted on the Project? No offence to Project lovers, but it's a really dumbed down show.
