An increasing number of dogs are being stolen all across the Hunter area in NSW for what is believed to be for dog fighting.
In the Maitland, Aberdeen and Rutherford areas there have been 22 dogs stolen as of last weekend. In the Muswellbrook/Scone area there have been 16 dogs stolen, all of which were mastiff, staffy and bull terrier type dogs.
In Toronto and surrounding areas they are now stealing smaller dogs for what police believe is to train the larger dog breeds to fight. Toronto police are advising for people to keep their dogs inside.
police need to set up a sting operation. Put a staffy on a street corner and wait for a bust. If they catch the guy they can compromise a looser sentence if he squeals on his mates.
These things work but police are hopeless.
Police set up a sting in my area for car theifs and made 5 arrests in a few hours. It was so effective that that stopped doing it because it just means more paperwork, and it's easier to sit in a car with a speed laser
^ I agree something like that needs to be done. At the moment the council are basically denying that dog fighting happens in the Hunter, and the police are taking in calls from people with missing dogs and are doing nothing about it.
My parents saw this ute go down our street on Saturday, and dad saw the same one a week earlier with 2 dogs on the back
It's a white ute, with a giant cage on the back with a blue tarp over it.
On Friday night about 5 minutes from my house the man was seen trying to steal dogs from two separate yards.
The police have had dozens of reports from people yet still haven't caught anyone. I fear for the safety of my dogs, and can't even let them outside unless I am home.
These evil individuals should be removed from society, along with anyone connected with this horrendous crime. and the keys well and truly disposed of.
Last night Port Stephens Police received information that a white Toyota Hilux table top utility, with possibly four dog cages and a tarp on the back was seen driving slowly around the two suburbs. The driver appeared to be looking into yards and a partial NSW registration number of AWW_ _ _ was given as the numbers appeared to have been covered. We are seeking assistance from the public to identify this vehicle as we want to speak with the driver. Any information can be passed onto Raymond Terrace Police Station on 4983 7599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
I think a vigilante group needs to be assembled to take these putrid excuses of humans out! Nothing is being done about this by Police because they are either too lazy or have 'better' things to do. So why don't we, the people that really care, (the dog owners) stand up and do something! These people just look at dogs as pets. Well I look at my dog as my best mate, like my son! If I EVER caught anyone in my street or my house trying to steal mine or my neighbours dogs, I wouldn't just let them go and report them to the police... Just saying guys, people are obviously seeing these things happen so why don't they do something about it. It is legal to restrain someone with cause until Police arrive. It is called a citizen arrest. At least follow the car and find out where they are going! We can do this guys. If you love your little guy or girl then stand up for them... Coz we are all they have got and if it were the other way around, you know they would give their lives to protect us!!!
