Hiya, Im doing a religion assignment at school, and I was reading about Halal Killing and sacrifice, and found it slightly disturbing. Iv'e known about Halal before, but I didnt know that it involved severing the animals jugular vein (and possibly throat) after the animal has been roughly forced to the ground. I read that Muslims consider it the most humane way of killing an animal, but Im a bit confused about what to think.
Any opinions or comments welcome.
I work with a muslim lady who only eats halal meat. At first i wanst too sure what to think about it. Heres what i know on halal meat. First they say a prayer for the animal they are about to slaughter, then they hold it down, hang it up and slit its throat, they let the blood drain out of the animal ( although this is no different than the slaughterhouses for normal meat ) and just from this process she feels better about eating the animal. Shes even told me that she has watched her animals have their throat slit before she took them home to cook. She doesnt even feel for this poor animal. I personally think its crazy. When we have work lunches she will eat vegan foods with me because the animal was not prayed for.
A slaughterhouse about a hour away from me does Halal Slaughter - so i am told. I find it descusting and desturbing But then again its not really at all that diffrent to regular standards of slaughter ( beside a few things )
Either way a living creature is brutally killed - Prayer or no Prayer. The animal still died in Vein.
Couldnt agree more Hannah, Its not any more comforting for the animal to have a prayer said on its behalf and that doesnt make it anyless forgiving - i thought God said Thou shall not Kill?

Personally, i don't consider any killing of any living thing "humane".
Halal is far from Humane. The slaughter is unaceptable and unecessary.
Not only that shouln't we get a choice in weather we get taxed on an Islamic religion??
We are getting taxed on any food product or other product that is Halal.
The money is used to push for Sharia Law in Australia. This certification is not necessary.
Muslims are allowed to eat meat slaughtered by people of the book (Christians and Jews).
So halal is not necessary yet companies are spending thousands of dollars each year for it.
When you buy Halal food or products you are also directly funding terrorism.
It has been proven in the USA, France and Canada that 60% of the Halal certification fees end up in the hands of Hamas, Muslim Brotherhood and other terrorist organisations.
Most people don't even know what they are funding. Do your research, educate your friends and family. We as consumers should have a choice.
Boycott Halal!
