Halal Killing

Does everyone still consider it humane?

I find it shocking how many places are "halal certified" (presuming that means animals are killed in the above way mentioned). If I ate meat (but I suppose those who do obviously do not care for animals anyway) I would prefer it be slaughtered in a more humane way.

Hi, so if I bought a vegan product from a vegan-organic store... Is it actually vegan and/or is it supporting killing and eating of animals??

'Halal' just means 'lawful' or permitted. So halal foods are just foods that are permitted to be eaten in Islamic tradition.

If you find a product that is 'halal certified' and has no animal ingredients then you can assume it's vegan. The fact it is halal certified will just be to reassure/signal to muslims that they can eat it. I would in fact that most (if not all) foods that are vegan are also 'halal'. To my understanding most of the rules around halal relate to foods that come from animals.

One common misconception about halal slaughter is that it is necessarily more cruel than non-halal slaughter. While there are a handful of slaughterhouses in Australia that are allowed to kill animals without stunning (mostly for Kosher slaughter, but also some Halal), in the vast majority of cases (in Australia), animals killed by 'halal' slaughter are stunned and killed under the same conditions and in the same slaughterhouses as any other animal.

We've offered a bit more info about halal here: http://www.banliveexport.com/facts/halal.php

And of course, it goes without saying that whereever animals are killed on mass for commercial gain there are going to be animals who are stressed and suffer... which is why simply not eating animals seems the simplest way to ensure no animals are harmed for your food.

Yeah i understand the part where its a religious view similar to a prey before you eat food or whatever, but that part that confuses me was like you said above 'halal' usually signifies that the animal/s have been killed in accordance to their religious views... so i was sort of thinking why would they bother putting that label on stuff that 'apparently' has no animal ingredients... the reason it got me asking, i was buying some of there products and i recently stopped because i didn't have all the facts on it... I was also concerned that if i buy products that are 'halal' certified that I would be supporting the production and their religious views too which i happen to be strongly against like many others on here...

Yeah i know what your saying. Same deal with kosher, people told me it symbolised that it is safe for Jews to eat on certain days that have been dedicated to not eating animals but yet they also have cruel practises... like i understand that some people view it as showing the businesses that their is demand for the vegan food that they also supply... but i can not and will not bring myself to use products that also represent cruel practises towards animals, the use of animals or test on animals even if that particular product is vegan friendly (sort of the same thing with palm oil it's vegan but supports the cruel practises... although i have come across this website for the roundtable of sustainable palm oil, which is said to be a better practise implemented with regulations to ensure us of it [ i personally have not had the time to research all the necessary details to make a decision on whether or not i would use it because I'm fairly sure they only 'minimise' the risk to animals when quite frankly its not an essential product so i don't feel the necessity for it at all so even that 'minimal' amount could be prevented by not even using it at all... here's the link if any one is interested http://www.rspo.org/ )

Which is yet another thing that saddens me :,( but to be honest id be just as sad if only one animal was killed for the purpose of eating or commercial gain, as for me its not about the quantity its about the fact that another living being has been killed/tortured or at times exposed for entertainment..

I'm 100% vegan and have been since I realised meat was animals, I'm ecofriendly for not just the animals and organisms that home here but also for mother earth herself/and I'm also an animal and human rights activist because all living beings are equal to me.
