I have just received a copy of the RSPCA's Christmas newsletter and the centre pages are titled, "Humane Festive Recipes." One is a roast rack of Otway pork, the other is cage-free eggnog.

I find this really disturbing that just because it is "free range" pork and "cage free" eggs they give the impression that there is no cruelty involved. What's more, the eggnog contains milk and cream. rolleyes

I realise the RSPCA are not abolitionists, but it sure makes things tough for those of us trying to educate people on the cruelties still involved in "free range" and "cage free," and the dairy industry.

When I was pointing out to a work colleague the way male chicks are discarded - cage free chickens or otherwise - she said, "If it's good enough for the RSPCA, it's good enough for me."

Anyone got suggestions as to how to tackle this one?

Ugh, that's stupid.I know they are for welfare rather than rights, but it's a blatant lire to say cooking any animal or its by-product is cruelty-free or humane in any way. Have you sent them and email about this?

I hate how people tned to trust the RSPCA because they see they on TV prosecuting people, when in reality, my dad works closely with them and he says they are notoriously slack for doing anything in welfare cases, especially if the animal has already died.

I'll email them about this "humane" recipe stuff as well, it's so wrong.

"for all creatures great and small" should be changed to "Only for the creatures who we can't exploit in any way."

I hate them. I know not everyone does, and they do some good, but they cause more harm than they fix.

I got into a debate about the RSPCA with someone the other day and why I wasn't 100% for them...

OMG i was looking at the recent RSPCA newsletter and the "cage-free"  eggnog recipe wierded me out too cos its free range eggs but the recipes has milk and cream!!
but its like how they encourage you to but free range pork - i thin k the RSPCA knhows that there is no way they could convince heaps of people to go vego (or vegan, for that matter) so theyt just settle on trying to convince people to eat free range cos its easier than no eggs at all. and as for the free range pork, its still sad, but people are more likely to buy free range than no meat at all
