Hi everyone!

Animal Liberation Queensland will be holding a protest against greyhound racing at the proposed site of a new greyhound racing track in Logan, just outside of Brisbane.

Date: Saturday 28 July 2012
Time:  11am - 1pm
Location: Compton Rd (near cnr of Kingston Rd), Slacks Creek (Logan), Qld

Bring banners/placards and friends if you can or just bring yourself. This is a peaceful protest asking the government not to invest further money in the wasteful greyhound racing industry and not to go ahead with this proposed track at Logan.

For further details please see Facebook page:

I am a retired  greyhound owner and while I don't believe every owner or trainer is bad I do think when animals and money are are involved it can lead to abuse so wish you luck happy

Thanks Kess
Yes, we do understand that many people that are or have been involved in the racing industry and caring for greyhounds in some way really love and care for their dogs.
It is of great concern though that as many as 20,000 dogs a year are killed when they can not run fast enough to earn any money, they get too old, or they suffer an injury. In such a dangerous money-driven industry, these kind of issues will always exist unfortunately.

A few years back my fiancee and I adopted a greyhound that use to be raced. The psychological problems the dog had developed due to the training and treatment it received  were so severe that it could barely function.
Due to finances and becoming homeless shortly later, we had to re-home him. We had no means to care for him. sad
Not many weeks after this we spoke a vet that specialized in traumatized ex race dogs and he told us that generally they don't recover and need to be put down as they can lose their mind so much that they actually start seriously hurting themselves (which our dog did).
Racing any animal is just sick and needs to be stopped.
If I was in QLD I'd be right there. Good luck with it!

JessBrazil, the Animal Lib Qld team would love to learn more from the vet you mentioned who specialises in traumatised racing animals.  Any ideas as to how to get in touch with him?
