So today I got yelled at by some guy in the park because my dog wanted to play with his dog. Some people just don't know how dogs behave, the guy and his dog were standing right beside me, obviously my dog will get excited.
It just makes me so angry because he kept yelling "CONTROL YOUR DOG." My dog wasn't doing anything wrong... He was just being a dog and was just a bit excited.
I was at the vet once with my ridgeback. I was sitting in the waiting room with her, an older and his little shih tzu dog comes in, his dog trying to walk towards my dog and my dog tying to check out his, mind you we were on opposite sides of the room and more than a metre apart at the closest, he started angrily saying to my "control your dog PLEASE"
some people don't have experience with other dogs. And some people are just surly.
I know how you feel :/ I've had a lady tell me off for taking my dog away from her dog. I was so annoyed because it was my old dog (she was about 10 at the time) and I only took her down there because no one was there. She HATED other dogs and was old and scared and wobbly so when another lady showed up with her dog I just smiled and picked up my dog and started walking away when she was all "Let it stay and play ra raa raa" It was weird and she made me feel bad.

Yea I don't get why people have to get so uptight about it when it's clear that they just want to play. I mean sure, my dog was bugging the other one a bit, but I was trying my best to get him back on a leash

Oh really? That is a bit weird. You shouldn't feel bad, you didn't do anything wrong! I know how you feel though, having that guy yell at me made me feel bad too :/

I can understand the lady's reaction but I'm sure she would have understood if you had explained why you left. I get very disappointed when I take Taz to the off-leash park and people try to keep their dog away from us when it is clear that their dog is happy/accepting/apathetic to the presence of Taz. I feel like yelling "I'M JUST TRYING TO LET MY DOG SOCIALISE!!!!!!"
People treat their dogs like mini-humans that they need to protect, when unless a dog is aggressive and completely unsocialised, the dogs can sort it out for themselves. They learn when to sense they aren't welcome and move on most of the time.
I can't help felling guilty of my family when i know that we kind of yell at our dog when she runs up to our fence barking. I know she is just communicating...
But this guy is yelling for NOTHING! He brought his dog out, so he should expect dogs to meet him.
I try to control my dog a little because she gets into fights.
