It's illegal to have a rooster in allot of councils. they wake everyone one.
Chickens are great, they are a bit like cats. I've noticed they are kind of aggressive, if you dont feed them on time or let them out when they would like they yell at you when you finally do.
They are nice to watch too, when your sitting in the back yard.
It depends on your personality really. If i could only have one animal i'd have a dog. But i'd probably prefer a chicken to a cat.
Does anybody own chickens or a rooster? I don't really have a specific question to ask so can anybody tell me anything about what's it like to have chickens as pets or any heart-warming fuzzy stories you have to tell?
I received a white chook as a baby chick on my 15th birthday. When she matured she was all white, except for 1 black feather on her chest. She was gorgeous - I called her Chirpy. She would follow me around the house (I had to pick up a lot of chicken poo from the carpet). She would scratch around the compost area, sit on the chair getting pats from my dad. She was absolutely gorgeous. I would love to have more chickens as pets, but that won't work as I have 3 dogs; and dogs like to chase birds.
Chirpy was fed left over rice, which we softened in water for her so it wouldn't get stuck in her throat. She was fed corn kernals and seeds and ate from the compost pile. She was really healthy. I wasn't vegetarian or vegan then and we ate her eggs when she laid them. I wouldn't do that now if I rescued battery hens - I'd give them to my family who insist on eating animals and the sort.
Chickens are great pets. They love immensely. My dad was Chirpy's favourite friend. I miss her dearly. I still have a photo of her at my desk, where she's perching on my dad's chair while he pats her.

Ive never seen a aggressive hen or roster before I always feed my chooks at different times depending on when i start and finish work and they never seem to care what time they get fed We have a auto door opener, it opens at 7 am and closes at 7 pm.

If i could only have one animal it would be a toss up between a pig, sheep or cow
