<snip> I want him to go veg but he dose have diabetes so im not sure if he can <snip>
Actually, there's quite a bit of evidence suggesting that a veg*n diet will lessen the severity of the symptoms of diabetes, and may eventually allow for those who suffer from it to cease taking (or reduce) their medication. Obviously, this shouldn't be attempted without a physician's guidance, but it's certainly encouraging all the same! A Google search can give you more information, if you desire.
Yep, I've done quite a bit of ready of this evidence too. I certainly don't believe being diabetic is an obstacle to becoming vegan.
You refused to go out with a guy because he eats meat? Dats a little extreme. My gf isn't a vegetarian but I love her and she can choose the lifestyle she wants to lead and I accept her and she accepts me
I personally don't believe that's at all extreme. My beliefs about animal rights are very significant to me, to the point where they are dictating my choice in profession. Why would I want to date someone seriously when they don't share this belief, and condone and engage in mass murder*?
That hardly seems radical to me.
* = I know that most people who eat meat do not directly engage in murdering their food, but if you are consuming it, you are driving a demand for it, and thus playing a part in its production.
I agree, this is just living according to your core beliefs and values, it's not like refusing to go out with someone based on a superficial reason. My cousin once accused me of being superficial for refusing to go out with a hunter friend of hers!!
This is not to say that it doesn't work for f3xstar. If you are able to look past that aspect of your partner, and it doesn't affect you, that's all good.
Can you explain why you didn't want to go in? Veg*n dishes would still have been veg*n...
Yep, I was curious about this too - halal just means "permitted" by Islam. The only thing I can think of which is vegan (sometimes), and which is haram ("forbidden", ie. not halal) is alcohol.
My partner eats meat (I was a meat eater when we first got together too). Apart from telling me when I was only a vegetarian that vegans are 'stupid', he's been really good, and cooks vegan for me all the time. But having spent a fair bit of time with pigs (and falling in love with them!) and seeing how badly they are treated, it just really breaks my heart when I see him eat bacon or other pig products. Last time I saw him eating bacon I got a little emotional -- I didn't mean to be irrational, but at times I really wish he'd understand and care about what goes on in that awful industry!
iv been told halal supports terrorism in the middle east etc so i try and avoid it, which is a shame because cadburys is halal. And the whole bf/gf thing, i just parted ways with my partner because i want to date someone who is vegetarian.

Hey that sucks about your breakup but from just reading your other thread it sounds like it's for the best!
Whoever told you halal supports terrorism is either confused as to what the word is, having a bit of fun, or incredibly racist
Were you both serious before you broke up? I can see why you did it though.. it is becoming harder to respect my partner the more I realise he just doesnt care that the animals are treated appalingly. He gets angry that I get upset about this.

Terrorism in the Middle East is supported by all sorts of things, depending which 'expert' you talk to, but least of all by halal food (it's arguable that the United States government was complicit in making Osama bin Laden what he is today). The overwhelming majority of Muslims in the world are not terrorists, but their religious beliefs require them to eat food which is certified as halal. This is no different to vegans who would only eat food which conforms to our own belief system. Terrorism perpetrated in the name of religion is always a bastardisation of faith and scripture... personally, I have somewhat atheistic beliefs, but I can respect religious people who believe in peace. The ones who don't are a minority, but they include Christians, Muslims, Buddhists and Jews alike.
As said above, Halal means certified for Islamic consumption, it cannot support terrorism. It's the same as someone saying "Kosher supports terrorism in the Middle East." Maybe they meant Hezbollah or something similar?
